Trailer PC Xbox 360 PS3

After a new XS MGS, here comes a traielr for a new XL MGS : Metal Gear Solid: Rising, revealed by Kojima-san himself during Microsoft press briefing. However, when the trailer for MGS: Peace Maker shows a lot of gameplay, this trailer shows absolutely nothing.

It's Kojima, surely there's a message in there somewhere. And even if there isn't, he wants us to think there is, in which case hype machine continues rolling - either way he wins lol.

Lightning Bolt Action still sounds ridiculous though, almost like it's a spoof game.

Hm... I saw this in Microsoft's press briefing already... and I think it is very untypical for MGS. Even for a teaser. The last teasers of MGS all where very funny and long even whe they also showed nothing from the game... But here you can see how much MS was pushing this teaser from Kojima. I don't like it somehow... But the artwork is really cool even though it's contradictory from the story of MGS4... Maybe it plays between MGS2 and MGS4.

It almost kind of is. Its a game Kojima doesn't really want to do. Its not a "true" sequel to any of the Metal Gear games. But more of a side step. It will always be more action base then sneaking.

clearly its a new direction outside of the MGS numbered series. But Kojima considers both this and the PSP game "MGS5"

err not really. Kojima isn't directing the game and its not MGS5. This is handled by his young staff...honestly I don't really care about Raiden. But it should be a quality game nevertheless

The PSP title which is a true sequel to MGS3 (my fav MGS) is the one Kojima really wants to do and is making hand on.
Kojima really doesn't seem too interested in this game but as it is releasing under his company's logo, it should be worthy of anyone's time (just not as worth as a "real" MGS title I reckon...But who knows, we ahven't seen any of it yet..).

And this I think is a fair speculation:
Konami wanted MGS4 to be multiplatform but Kojima insisted that it stayed PS3 exclusive. Konami then agreed on the basis that a MGS game at a later date would be released for 360 and PS3 and thus, 'Rising' was born.

I thought MGS4 was highly overrated and I can't seem to get excited about this game either. I just don't get how or why people can get so invested in the MGS games. The stories and characters are so over the top I just can't stop rolling my eyes.

Maybe I'd like them more if i was younger? not sure but I'm sure this will be a good game for those who love the MGS universe.

lol, who cares if it has or doesn't have Kojama pajama?

If in the time-line it continues after MGS4, it's MGS5. Not like that spin-off made after MGS3, just like portable ops, milkin' spin-off.

No. MGS:R is a spin off action based game. It might relate to the MGS story in some way but it isn't a true sequel. Peace Walker is actually a sequel though.

If it continues the story, it's not a spin-off, no matter how much of a departure the gameplay takes. Solid Snakes story is finished, and this is supposed to be the coninuation of that.

I'm just going to go ahead and say it: Who gives a flying f***? Wait untill we know more about it, then say something. I love the completely irrelevant "This is MGS 5, no that is MGS 5, no this is a spinoff, no that portable crap is a spinoff!" We don't know ANYTHING abut these games yet so just take your ritalin and chill :P

To add to this, Hideo Kojima is writing and directing Peace Walker (and the main MGS4 staff is involved with its development) while someone else is directing MGS: Rising with another development staff. My money is on Shuyo Murata directing (he was the co-director of MGS4 and director of ZOE 2 and would be perfect for "Lightning Bolt Action"). This is obviously the reason why Kojima views MGS Peace Walker as the "true sequel". He's directing it!

However, just because MGS: Rising is a pseudo spin off doesn't make it any less cool. I'm still getting it (I'm personally hoping for some PSP-PS3 interaction on this one). However, I personally find it hard to get excited about a game when the only footage of the game is a high resolution render of the main character.

I was under the impression that chronologically this is set in the time between MGS2 and 4 since Raiden gets surgically returned to human at the end of MGS4. Anyway, I don't care if this is a "true sequel" or any of that other fanboyish bullshit, if it's a compelling game I will play it.

Huh?

My point is I personally don't give a rat's fuzzy butt cheeks about all this fanboy bickering, if the game is good I will play it and at this point we don't know anything about the game's quality. Fanboys have to accept the Metal Gear name continuing without Kojima hovering over it forever so now would be a good time to start getting used to it.

Except the PSP version DOES have Kojima "hovering over it".

Also we fans know what makes MGS game a MGS game and those are:
1) Solid Snake
2) Hideo Kojima

Both missing in this game.
Well maybe Snake will make an appearance but you don't play as him.

And Chapter 3 of MGS4 was left for someone else to do as an "experiment" and 80% of that chapter was really bad compared to rest of the game so there you go.

I'm not saying this game will be crap though but I'm just not really sure this is the MGS I wanted.
To be perfectly honest I'm not even sure why this is called MGS.....Oh yeah I do, to sell.

I guess that's what distinguishes a fan and a fanboy.

At this point, of basically knowing nothing about MGS Rising, I am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. I have played and enjoyed the previous games so I consider myself a fan but I am also willing to admit they have some major problems with the bloated length of cut scenes and this is something that can also be directly attributed to Kojima.

As far as Snake goes, his story is over, deal with it for love of God, just deal with it.

Kojima has said that he's working equally as much on both projects, since that first interview with Famitsu. I'm guessing he didn't want people to get the wrong idea.. yes, he originally said he wouldn't have much involvement with Rising, but that's what he said with MGS2.. and 3, and 4. Now he IS working on Rising.

Also, Solid Snake isn't in Peace Walker or MGS3.. they're still MGS games.
And Solid Snake WAS in the original two MSX games, despite them simply being called "Metal Gear". The Solid part was added to emphasis the fact the game is 3D.

I agree, I wanted MGS4 to be the last ever MGS ever but alas....
I'm just saying if they are going to make more (which they will until it runs out of milk...thanks to Konami) a true sequel to MGS3 is better than some Raiden spin-off.
he originally said he wouldn't have much involvement with Rising, but that's what he said with MGS2.. and 3, and 4. Now he IS working on Rising.
Oh? Where did he say that?
He said he is passing it on to the "youth team"..OF COURSE he'll still look over it to make sure it doesn't go to sh!t but you get the impression he is WAY more involved in Peace Walker (as he is writing and directing it and all...)
At this point, of basically knowing nothing about MGS Rising, I am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.
This is exactly where I stand.

Indeed it can and I'm sure Rising will be much more "non-MGS fan friendly" which will be a good thing in the eyes of many I'm sure (not me though, I love MGS cutscenes).

Also, it is way too early to argue over this game. While Peace Walker will come out in 2010, Rising will not come out until 2011 at the earliest. Konami is writing a brand new engine for the game, and since everyone at Kojima Productions was working on MGS4 until a year ago, it will take at least another two years to release the game. Hence, the lame ass teaser with no gameplay.

As a side note, I found something amusing on the website for the title. In the U.S., the 360 logo is placed above the PS3 one while in Japan the positions are reversed. Kind of shows their target audience for the regions!
