Xbox 360 PS3

Electronic Arts and DiCE released this trailer announcing the upcoming DLC for Mirror's Edge, to be released in January. As expected it's time trial levels, but the graphical style is interesting.

EA press release:
Guildford, UK. – Dec 4, 2008 – Leave the city behind! DICE, an Electronic Arts Inc. studio (NASDAQ: ERTS), today announced that the highly acclaimed first-person action adventure title, Mirror’s Edge™ will release downloadable content (DLC) for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system and the PC in late January. DICE also confirmed today that the PC version of the game will ship to retailers in North America on January 13th and worldwide on January 16th, 2009.

Players will be challenged to achieve the fastest times possible on nine races across seven all-new and totally redesigned Time Trial maps. No guns, no cops, and no city: this is true aesthetics, agility and flow that will challenge any runner. This special DLC pack will be available for $10 USD or 800 Microsoft points. As an added bonus, all PLAYSTATION 3 Mirror’s Edge fans will be able to download an additional map for free.

“The freedom of movement and control in first person has been the most popular aspect of Mirror’s Edge so we decided to distil these down to their purest form for this map pack,” says Owen O’Brien, Senior Producer, DICE. “We deliberately chose a more abstract aesthetic that is still within our distinctive art style and then focused on flow and gameplay to create an experience and challenge very different from the main game.” Time Trial is a popular mode in Mirror’s Edge that challenges players to find the fastest route across various maps. Players can upload their best time to the Mirror’s Edge leaderboards for their friends to download and compete against. Players can see their friend’s ‘ghost’ run as they race their way through the course to the top of the leaderboards.

Mirror’s Edge was awarded “Best Xbox 360 Game” at the recent GC Developers Conference in Leipzig, Germany. It also received the “Best Action Game” of Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) by IGN and the Game Critics Award for “Best Original Game” at E3 in July. Mirror’s Edge delivers players straight into the shoes of Faith, a modern day heroine who traverses the vertigo-inducing cityscape, engaging in intense combat, fast-paced chases and challenging puzzles. With a never-before-seen sense of movement and perspective, players are drawn into Faith’s dangerous world.

Just completed this game last night.. was a pleasant surprise. Reminded me alot of portal.. in that it feels fresh, and you have to work out how to progress in the levels. Its good to see that for the dlc they've taken that puzzle element further..rather than just adding to the story of the game.

This is absolutely the right direction they should take things in now. Pulling the pure awesome parts of maps and putting them in this crazy abstract style. This looks like a lot of fun and I will definately be downloading it.

What? You don't press much except in combat lol. Timing is the complicated part, and figuring out where to go.

This looks effing epic, I love it. I can't wait to get this, hopefully I'll have the game by then =D

i was going through the artwork you unlock when you complete the game, and there are a few that have this very minimalist, abstract, broken styling. very cool looking, wonder if they where planning on doing the whole game like this at one point?

Game's barely been out and they're charging $10 for a tiny bit of extra content. And I thought EA was changing.

See... if its so tiny it's not even worth the effort, don't pay for it.

So easy.

i think he's getting at the fact the game is barely 4 hours long and they're charging for content that really should be free considering the lack of content in the original release.

Indeed..... Give me a FREE 10 extra singleplayer campaign levels first, then i might consider DLC. Frankly i dont care about the time trials in this game.

They could make this free, if Valve was behind it instead of EA.

Also EA just released two excellent titles amongst a bunch of games that aren't really worth it

Dead Space and this game

EA's sales are not doing well despite creating two high profile games

Yeah, but it still gives me hope for EA in the future. Most of their games are absolute hollywood-garbage, but the past 2 years or so they have had quite a number of really GOOD games too.
Including as you mentioned, Dead Space and this.

I mean if you look at 2000-2006, EA had 0 good games lol, at least now they are sloooooooooooooooooooooooooowwly starting to get the picture.
Then again, that may very well depend entirely on the fact that they simply BUY good developers, and dont have anything to do with the games themselves :P
