Xbox 360 PS3

Midway's big announcement during their Gamer's Day certainly was Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, where the Mortal Kombat's characters will face the some of the characters created by DC Comics. I'm not sure what to think about that...

You know there's a great uproar among MK fans about this game. It does seem like Midway lost touch with their roots. Its been a bad time with fighting games since the start of this gen.

First, DOA4 was rubbish, just DOA3 in HD...

VF5 being uber-beautiful but still very basic, storyless and boring...

Now while we see very little to no improvements in Soul Calibur 4 from already spectacular PS2's Soul Calibur 3...

Tekken 6 bringing a few good touches like multi-tiered arenas and character customizations, but that's all...

And now MK having a merger with DC comic heroes/villains. It seems Fighting devs have emptied their idea bags. The visuals in this game aren't so next-gen either, judging from the video above. I think it will be a major disaster even being a multi-platform title.

You really can't compare this failure to any current fighting game on the market. This reaches new heights.

Did you just saw Soulcalibur 3 was spectacular? I assume you're ignoring the completely botched characters, unbalanced styles, horrible storymode, stupid cut scenes and ridiculously tedious "adventure" mode.

The game did have its good points, but all in all, it was a massive step down from the second game, let alone the first.

And also, character customisation was in Tekken 5, it's nothing new for 6. It is however in SC4.

erm anyone remember a game called Capcom VS Marvel Superheroes!! MVC is one of the most popular 2D fighters ever created, this looks shockingly bad.

Mortal Kombat vs DC = Fail,

2000AD could of worked, Judge Dredd would of kicked ass!

Farooq - 3D fighters have never been on par to 2D fighters :p SF For Ever

hey, no one was trolling Marvel vs Capcom >.> why?

and LOL @ Farooq trolling Multi-platform titles while praising an exclusive title, Tekken.

MK vs DC Universe will be awesome, but no fatalities :(? I can't imagine playing as Sub-Zero without having the ability to do his awesome moves.

No, rubso, you can track me in my previous posts... I absoluted worshipped MK and appreciated only the improving nuances in Tekken 6. But it is sooooooo vivid that MK has taken a low this tiome so in the current-gen, its only the Tekken6, besides a very pretty but basic VF5, that could be said to have entered next-gen.

you said about DOA4, "rubbish", while it has improved in fighting moves side, but little less in the graphical side. and it has nice CG cut-scenes (story for each character) and the first fighting game to introduce online gameplay (?).

Virtua Fighter 5, have improved a lot in the graphical side, and a little bit in the gameplay, and added new characters here and there and new arenas, and the it's the first VF with Online gameplay ( 360 version ).

Soul Calibur 4, from what I've seen screenshots and videos only from the game and from what it looks like, It's a next-gen eye candy by today standards, and personally, I don't know how it plays and how it's different from the older soul caliburs.

Tekken 6, I've seen screenshots of it, and I can't see anything different from the last downloadable tekken, and I don't anything MAJOR about it cause i'm not following tekken news, but hey dismissing all these fighting games and saying they didn't improve in a MAJOR way and praising tekken only, that's questionable.

about MK, Ed Boon maybe wanted to do something new with MK rather than adding new characters, dude my head explode when i saw this picture of MK Characters .

lol, so MK vs DC is really a good idea of having the old school MK characters plus the well known DC Characters, Capcom did it with Marvel Vs Capcom and it was a VERY successful idea!

Right so, but just like each and every other fighting game except MK, Capcom's fighters are not very story intensive... MK is such a game that the fans keep a full track record of the very promising, rich and developing storyline there. Every mistake is scritinized. The only way MK Vs. DC is a good move is, only if its a non-canon i.e., a side story and not a sequel!!!

Totally dissapointed here. Ed Boon said he wanted to start fresh, but then again he said the same thing after UMK3 and MK4. I wouldn't be such dissapointed if it was vs. Capcom, SNK, Street Fighter or even Marvel. I just do see me fighting against characters like; robin, aquaman, woderwoman, robin hood guy, *sigh*

That's pretty much my feelings. I'm not totally against a spin-off game like this, but we were promised MK8, a completely fresh start for the series and something that would hopefully reinvent the series, and make it as great as it was back in the days of MK2.

From what we've seen of the gameplay, it doesn't look too different, and the fact it's not a true sequel or restart or whatever is just.. meh. I can't say I'm interested in beating Batman to a pulp as Sub Zero.

Just wish they allow fighting against fighters of one's own team... I'll forget the rubbish DC part of the game there and accept the MK part, only play within those premises and be happy!

It's spelled "scrutinized." :P

I don't see anything wrong with this at all. Mortal Kombat has generally been a pretty weak fighting game in my book, so if they want to spice things up with DC characters, then so be it.

I don't really consider MK without blood or fatalities to be MK at all, those are such defining features to the series. It's like Mario without jumping, Halo without shooting, Zelda without swords...

I feel the latest fighting games like VF5 and DOA4 are about on par with the fighting games for the last ~15 years. No huge evolutions, but still being refined at the same pace.

We are at a point where I think fighting games could take a big evolution, but it'd be a lot of work and risky... It's probably end up like Tao Feng.

What in the samhill are you blathering on about son? Soul Caliur 3 was quite a bit worse than the other Soul Calibur games.

Also, MK ithout Blood or Fatalities is enough for me to hate this iteration, adding in characters from the DC universe that have absoltely no place in the MK franchise... That practically criminal.

Looking forward to the game, mostly for the DCU stuff. And there will be some blood as well as finishing moves, they just may not be called fatalities. Its ridiculous how much hate this is getting, its not any more odd than a Marvel vs Capcom game.

I'm sorry but SC3 was easily the worst of the series. SC4 looks ALOT better.
As for this game, sounds like a recipe for disaster. I guess they ran out of idea's, much like the majority of developers are with this genre...
