Images PS3

Sony released some new images of Gran Turismo 5 showing a bit of the new - and long-awaited - damage system. Once again, the game looks great and the release date of March 2010 seems like an eternity.

Ok, this is getting old. They need to start showing off the damage modeling on some NON-Rally cars. Next thing they'll probably start showing it for the Nascar cars. They keep dancing around the subject. I still want to know if they have it on Ferrari's, Lambos, etc.

Looks fantastic, but then again it's expected after such a long dev cycle. Not as amazing as some people are spouting about, however it comes up trumps in that department over the other "sim" though not by a considerable amount. It has it's pros and cons: some things look better; some things look worse.

There were some videos on the internet that showed damage on new Ferrari 458 Italia (some scratches etc.).

All the shots are from the same track because these are all from the TGS demo. If you visit the official GT5 site they'll tell you what's up

But damn I can't get enough of this game...

Impressive, they even modelled buffers and other stuff you practically never see.

But the damage is rather meh.

I guess he just wanted wanted a bit of deformation not only "moving parts"

Even GT fans should be a bit more critical about the game's flaws. I mean when the damage was announced all GT guys were like " wait until you see it, it will blow blow everything out of the water". And now we know what we get they start saying things like damage is overdone in Grid or even FM. (just read such a comment on the youtbe vid of the 458....)

Yes, but they still have a lot of work to make damages really realistic.

Kaz has already been quoted as saying they already have a way more realistic damage model working that is different than the TGS and Gamescon demo and should really show itself off in Nascar races.

Unless you live in Japan, don't bet on it quite yet. They still haven't confirmed release dates for Europe or the U.S. yet unfortunately.

That's because it's pretty blurry and because the great lightning of GT5.

Edit:
I think the great lighning and the focus on only the details that you can actually see are the big advantage of GT5. (Not to forget the car details, realism and amount of content)
Those are factors why you might call it the greatest racing game yet, imo.

The big problem will definately be the alaising. I hope they do something about that until the release.

i know, but still, it's actually getting to a point where it's hard to tell if it's a game or not.

Its the little things that the eye catches that make something look real. The fact that they seem to have captured the way light behaves on rubber makes a world of difference with the overall look. Its amazing.

Sad Forza 3 fanboys giving this a low rating, whilst they were giving those touched up Forza 3 shots a high one, and once the demo/game was released, they realized that it looks nowhere near as good as it was shown, but it's almost identical to Forza 2 lol.

I really wish games would do more interviews and less screens. I know pretty pictures impress some people, but it seems like more and more these days devs are relying on visual hype and less on verbal hype. I miss the days of reading about games as often as looking at pics. This is one game where I would LOVE to hear more about what's under the hood.

I think we get the point it's the best looking racing game.

Also, anyone know if GT5 is gonna have Lambos?

You're pushing the boat out a bit too far there. FM3 looks nowhere near like (or as bad) as FM2. The scenery and tracks looks astounding in the game, it was just a shame that the in-game car models didn't match up to the photo mode pics we all seen. Ditto for GT5, although GT5's lighting and shaders are somewhat better. Hardly a big feather in its cap, is it? Anyway, why even give a toss about ratings on a video? I don't even notice such things. How childish can one get.

Anyway, I think the videos more or less confirm what most rational people already knew, and that is that the intro video shown at E3 a while ago was indeed CGI, especially when the footage of the WRC claimed to show real-time deformation. As we all clearly can see, no such type of damage exists in the game, certainly nowhere near to the realism shown in that trailer. Though having said that, FM3's damage model is also underwhelming also.
