Xbox 360 PS3

A new week, and a lot of new games to be released. Capcom are ready to set MotoGP 08 free on PC, PS2, PS3 and Xbox 360 this Friday, and here is the launch trailer. For *some* reason Capcom hasn't really released much media from this game, but at least it looks pretty good now.

There's a heavy "floating" effect on the bikes, a bit too much for a game so close to release.

Yeh I agree thats was pretty bad, half the time they seem like they are floating the other time quarter of the wheel has disappeared into the tarmac. Would of expected this 10 years ago....

It doesn't look too bad at all, very similar to Climax's previous two MotoGP games on the 360, in fact. I agree with others though that occasionally it does look as if the bikes are floating, especially in the night time races (surely a first for the series... the night races I mean not the floating!), due to a slight mismatch between the wheels and shadows. The trailer is old though - I'm sure I've seen it before from when the game was announced last year (although I might be wrong) - so it may have been fixed for the final game. An exciting trailer doesn't tell us how it plays though...

Still, I've got the game coming tomorrow along with Midnight Club: L.A., Fable II and Dead Space so I'll know one way or the other whether this game is actually any good or not. I'm looking forward to it more than I would if it had been another Climax made game because they've been playing it safe since MotoGP 3 and the series has barely evolved since then. A new developer means a fresh approach to the game but at the same time there's a risk that it could all go pear-shaped. The fact that the game is almost released yet there's no reviews as yet usually doesn't bode well either.

Seems I was right about having seen the trailer before... GameTrailers posted it up on their site on 16th July of this year so the build it is using is at least three months old.

That's the E3 trailer, not the same.

I got the game this morning and it seems fairly decent from a very brief play which was really just the opening tutorial race which the game uses to gauge how good you are and thus recommend a handling type for you. There's three types of handling for the default Arcade through to Simulation. On Arcade the game is very accessible and easy to play, far more than the previous MotoGP games, as it uses the triggers for accelerate and brake by default. These can be customised though.

The graphics look fairly good too, at least on the tutorial's Mugello track (the longer one from the Forza 2 demo) although the lighting is a bit flat and the contrast level makes everything look a little darker than it should. The Brightness setting in the Options menu should sort that though. The framerate is solid too even on corners, this is no travesty on the scale of the rushed, buggy tear-fest that was MotoGP 06, thanks goodness! :)

Looking forward to checking this out more later on or tomorrow morning... seems very promising...
