In this new dev diary of Driver: San Francisco, the guys at Reflections explain why they came up with the whole shift idea. Whatever your opinion about this rather original feature, it seems to bring a new pace and dynamism to the car chases. And it's the best opportunity you'll ever have to fill Sam Beckett's shoes - and I don't mean the Irish writer here obviously.

Gahh. I don't know.
i'm one of the first people to put up their hand as someone who LOVES narrative and story in games. but if you cant do it well (all previous driver games) dont do it at all and just make sure the game is fun. i'm personally willing to overlook the context for the sake of fun. and this game looks pretty damn fun imo.
