Hope this is Team Bondi's turn to shine, like Rocksteady with Batman AA. They need to stick to their guns of unified game mechanics and not be afraid to stray far away from mainstream games.

Basically, be Heavy Rain in the 40's.

Why do you keep saying this? It won't be like Heavy Rain in the 40's.

I really hate tiny screenshots. That last pic would be a great wallpaper, anyone know where I can get that bigger?

Most websites compare it to Heavy Rain and Phoenix Wright series, in an open world (not sandbox).

Kotaku: "If there's an antecedent to L.A. Noire, a point of reference that will help gamers adjust expectations, it is Capcom's Phoenix Wright lawyer and investigation series. That game too is filled with conversations and the management of an expanding list of leads and evidence."

Kotaku: "is Rockstar really, simply making a fascinating interactive movie, one that is fun to watch and hear more than it is to play?" (like Heavy Rain, maybe?)

IGN Preview: "...because this might come as a bit of a shock. At its core, if you really boil it down to its essence, L.A. Noire is an old-school adventure game. That's right, Rockstar made a throwback to classic PC adventure gaming."

Total Videogames: "It's like Mafia II-meets-Broken Sword-meets-Heavy Rain then, although such a contorted analogy can't really do LA Noire much justice even if it is one of the few ways of describing it."

Play TM: "Without going into too much technical detail, MotionScan involves pointing multiple cameras at the actor and capturing a completely real and natural performance. Frankly, it makes <b>Heavy Rain look like a puppet show..."

1UP: "L.A. Noire looks more like a graphic adventure than an action game..."

I hope this game doesn't hold your hand in any way by nudging you towards an element of interest. I can't help but fantasize about a game that expects you to use real investigative skills to get through a complex puzzle similar to what you saw in Myst/Riven. I'm tired of companies assuming we're incapable of solving complex puzzles even if they are trying to kid proof the game. The potential kids have is extremely underestimated.

no its just like a 3rd person game, not heavy rain type... but its for only serious games bcoz game needs player to think about the case, about asking questions and in what pattern u do... there always 3 ways of interrogation methods when u r talking with a suspect or a person related to a victim or case. Some cases are from real life events in this game

This.

I love Rockstar games because of the way they draw you into the story and the atmosphere. I hate them because at some point they all start to become tedious because nothing new happens and the mission design is the same over and over again.

...
Mafia 2 meets Broken Sword sounds like a possibly accurate description, but Heavy Rain in the 40's... I don't think this game is going to be anything like that.

A quote From the GameInformer article:
Producer Jeronimo Barrera considers L.A. Noire “an adventure game that plays like a GTA.”

"Rockstar assured me that even total idiots who constantly read people the wrong way and can't connect the dots will still be able to solve cases; it'll just take more legwork. The better you are as a detective, the quicker you can find the bad guys. " (IGN)

i always read that it was like GTA4's open world mixed with Mass effects communication wheel....

All those quotes, and the screen shots we've seen so far, have me alittle worried that it may be fixed camera's throughout (like heavy rain)

I don't think it's an issue of devs not thinking people are smart but making sure games are enjoyable. There is nothing fun about being stuck because you missed a hair pin with fingers on it...

I guess it comes down to what people find enjoyable. I personally was more or less in a constant state of being stuck throughout myst/riven, but still consider them to be some of the most enjoyable games to date. Requiring some intellect will always have more appeal to me. I never found much enjoyment walking through elementary puzzles.

They call that "pixel hunting". In 2D (Monkey Island), or 3D fixed camera (Broken Sword) games, they weren't as frustrating because of the limited items and movement to interact with on a single screen.

Open world, and "pixel hunting"? Oh god...

haha yeah I can see why this might sound difficult to pull off in an open world environment, but I still think if the player can find the right path it shouldn't prove to be much worse than those examples. Myst and Riven were open world on a minor scale, and I don't see why this would prove to be impossible or unappealing in a larger universe IMO.

I haven't properly played Myst, because back in the day I got like 5 frames per second with the game and then uninstalled it. If there was an XBLA version of Myst as a remake, I'd be down for that since I have no gaming rig computer.
