This is looking pretty nice. They seem to be flip-flopping over mechanics, which is a little worrying...but it's thief, how can i say no. If i managed to enjoy thief 3, i'm sure i can enjoy this.

hmm looks ok for a ps3 and 360 game, but i will be glad when these cross platform games stop and they just stick to ps4 and xbox one so we get proper next gen games instead of them slapping a few better textures on and thats it

After playing BF4 on my PC and exceeding next-gen console quality and performance, anything coming out for X1/PS4...other than Forza 5, looks like it could be done on current gen. This game included.

I'm pretty disappointed so far, but it looks like this will be the case for the first year.

I have a feeling that by the time the first Halo comes out for X1, developers will have a hold on the toolsets for development, and be able to push BOTH systems much, much further while still being able to meet the standard of 1080p/60fps.

You really believe this can be done on current gen and look like those screenshots? See those lovely high res parralax occlusion maps on, well, mostly everything. Yeah, those would melt a PS3/360.

At this image quality, certainly not. Shame this isn't the actual image quality.

The 25year old and under crowd fill these forums and sites. So you have to remember that. Once you do its easy not to waste a response on them and move on. I think once we all stop responded to all the kids who's first system was a PS2/Xbox, PS3/360 they will slowly but surely disappear.

It could be. Look at BF3 and 4. It's an exceptionally clean looking game when it's running. There's very little aliasing with the right settings. I know they aren't the same engine, but AA methods have certainly come a long way in the past 5 years or so.

Battlefield's built in AA options are pretty bad actually :) Except 4... it has a built in super sampling thing, and that works pretty well.

The point: You're saying it couldn't be done on current gen consoles, but it's not actually going to look like this on next-gen consoles either. It absolutely could be done on current gen w/ some (relatively) minor downgrades.

Well you could argue that point about most games currently on next gen. The game itself is possible on current gen, yes. BF4 being a good example. Obviously POM is a massive memory hog, it it does make a huge difference to texture detail, and detail overall, when it's all working on most surfaces. The point being, trying to run that kind of stuff with the obvious use of tessellation (which is impossible on current gen) wouldn't be doable. This game does look more impressive when it's running too, I think. The texture work and how sharp it looks is what makes it stand out above anything seen on a current gen system, so I think it could look almost exactly like those screenshots.

It won't. Framebuffer grabs from next-gen consoles of this game will look nothing like that.

It's not technically a bullshot (like say, DR3 "screens" that Capcom releases) since there is a PC version, but it's still not going to look like that on Xbox or PS4. It'll be significantly closer, I suppose, but it will still be quite a ways away from what you see here. I'd be shocked if I were wrong on this one. That's not some cheap FXAA at work, that's some super sampling and/or high levels of MSAA right there...

And it won't even be down to edge quality. They won't use the highest quality assets either.

Battlefield is a good example of a game that you can't really do properly on current gen. They couldn't even do BF3 properly. Those are extremely downsized versions of the games (including map sizes, player counts, etc). Stuff that goes right down to the core of the gameplay. I bet Thief 4 will be more or less the same game on every platform.
