Trailer Xbox 360

I can't really say that Ninety-Nine Nights 2 impressed many people last week at the TGS, will this trailer help people gain some interest in that title?

I think it's quite disturbing that japanese devs and anime artists never create characters that look of asian descent. Are they ashamed of their looks? No one really ever touches the topic and I think many people notice the same thing, but there's never been an explanation of why this is so. I guess they have a fascination with caucasions. At times they will produce a cartoon or game, and every now and then they would include a character with dark skin, but they stereo type and usually exaggerate their features. Just look at the black guy in Final Fantasy XXIII. His afro, clothes, and gestures look comedic as if he was just tacked on for a little diversity, but he's clearly just a token. And I don't even want to talk about DJay from Street Fighter. His looks and name support my argument.

I have always wondered that myself. I think it would do us good to see more relevant diversity. Not diversity for diversity's sake. I do think the caucasian thing happens so much is because of the variety of features( such as hair and eye color, skin tone, etc.).

well...im a asian so i know more about this subject...

It is true that Caucasians are definitely thought of as being beautiful...You see most people from china, japan, and korea think of Caucasians as only beautiful, tall, big eyed, blue eye, blonde hair, muscular build for guys, a build slim girls..and etc..

Its like how you caucasians look at asians...as mystical, different, oriental...
We see caucasians as like beautiful elfs (in a way)

That is not to say we consider our women ugly (most asians would take a beautiful asian girl over a beautiful caucasian girl), but caucasians hold a special allure in that Caucasians look very different from us.

That is to say our anime characters meld characteristics of both Caucasians and Asians...most anime characters have blonde or brown hair, blue or green eyes, and usually have huge eyes...(Caucasian characteristics) but it also melds asian influence as well...slim body build (you usually dont see over muscular characters having bigger arms than faces, that is because asians prefer tall and skinny over tall and big), narrow faces, and small noses (Asian characterstics)

So you see, anime is the culmination of the best characteristics from Caucasian and Asian human anatomy...

the best of both worlds...

however if anime characters were real...they would be ugly

hoped that help

I agree with your reasons as to why it happens so much, but if they are looking for diversity then there would be more blacks in there products. Have you seen how many shades of brown skin, eye color, hair texture/color types there are of people with darksin? Sometimes even siblings don't look like siblings. The diversities are limitless.

Elves....really? I don't even want to know your description of blacks. Well, actually I think all people are beautiful and if more creators produce a little more diversity, it could become a much more interesting market.

Definately agree there. I actually think the most beautiful people are the mixed ones. It's like we were meant to mix the races together.

I havent noticed it actually... And i watch a lot of anime lol. To me, anime characters don't look asian, caucasian, or anything in between, they are just ANIME CHARACTERS for the most part, and then sometimes they do look asian.

Anime characters and video game characters, as in you know, people that don't actually exist. So you can't say you notice any resemblance to real people there, even caricatures look more realistic than anime, for the solely reasons that caricatures exagerate any physical features of a person and anime aren't based on real people and when they are they look totally different.

When a japanese artist want's to draw a realistic looking character, they usually go for the asian look, or they take a real model (of any race) and try to nail it, like that girl from RE5. That's why i say i've never noticed there being more caucasians or lot's of asians in anime, there is just little of the two, the mayority are just super deformed people.

I think the conclusion you draw here is not right.
Hair and eye colors in animes usually describe basic characteristics, the social stand or role in the story. I’m not going to list them here. You can look them up yourself if you like, google will help you out.
The character design is not only a mix of cultures. I mean you can hardly compare a shojo to shonen so how do you rate the influence of other cultures?
Big eyes are not used because Caucasians have them, neither are small noses used because Asians have them.
Humans in general usually think of this combination as adorable, regardless of their origin. That’s a reflex of nature to make us care about our offspring. Kittens, puppies and babies they have these features. That is more likely the reason why they are used, especially on female characters.
There are also some aspect ratios on bodies and faces we usually naturally think of as beauty or fitting and miraculously anime and mangas characters usually fit these perfectly.
I give you that of course there are external influences and that it might have played a minor role in the development but making it the main reason is just wrong from what I know.
Note that I’m solely talking about anime and manga characters, game characters are their own matter. And of course there are always exceptions to a rule.

Even though I knew the generals of that, thanks for the extra detail!
I still think it's a little disturbing that Japanese animation, whether drawn or 3D or whatever, pretty much never has Asians. Yeah, sure, they think of Caucasians as an unearthly beauty or whatever, but that's not all there is to it, because you also see stereotypical black guys and the like in there. Asians seem to be the only ethnicity not represented.

Looks good!

Too much ELf, too little Dwarf. Oh well I guess I can settle for the big red Orc like man. Sigh.. why is it every Asian fantasy based game (KOrean and Japanese) has a myraid of Long eared Elf like beings. You would think that by now even thier crowd would get sick of it a bit.

Hey, if they are trying to implement a decent story-line, this is Feel+ afterall, that the mediocre Arcade Fighter Style Dinasty Warrios still uses and all his clones for each character in the game and all are generic and suck, then I prefer less characters e more game go play and better story.

True, I agree that most of it is crap with the notable exception of the Ghost in the shell franchise and a couple of others where they opt for avoiding the big eyed bullshit. As my first exposure to anime/ manga was also Akira (if you don't count Battle of the Planets, he he) I have always held it up to that standard and found almost all of it to be severely lacking. Still in terms of games the trend is more towards realism and asians are represented fine in many games, Onimusha anyone?

Now this is a really helpfull post. Really helps me understand it a good bit better (I'm not Caucasian though, and have mostly Asian blood... though not from Korea, China or Japan... but Indonesia).

As for this game... quite a drastic change in style. Graphics don't seem to have improved a lot. I'll just hope this game will offer the kind of battles the first game should've had (which is, a lot of battles with hundreds or thousands of enemies at once). Seriously, in the original I got more kills in the demo (4000) than I could manage in the who real game.

read about anime on wikipedia, asians don't do anime because they have an obsession with caucasians...if you understand why anime is drawn that way you will know why

after the first series of anime, it just exploded and people just continued drawing that way..i think one of the fathers of anime draw large eyes as he found it more expressive after watching western animation, colour was used for depth etc.

plus, not all anime are drawn the same, each artist draw them differently. lol which caucasian has natural pink or green hair? you even head to japan and there is a famous street where people look like anime characters, the clothing, hair style etc..it's a huge influence in japan.

but anyway, going back to this game..i swear this would've made an epic JRPG with the characters and bosses shown
