The sooner the faster people can get disappointed with "red/blue/green" type rng variety and move on.

I was not as hyped as so many people were when it was announced at vgx 2013 but the more i see and read about the game the more excited i get. It will be very interesting to see how people judge the game based on the $60 price tag and that the team is still like 10 people.

Looks lovely. And very impressive tech. But i need to see more of what's there to keep you entertained beyond that of exploration. I wish you could meet other players...but from what i hear the odds are so small due to the infinate universe it may as well be impossible.

Why wouldn't anyone? Because it's indie? The Witcher 3 is indie too.

No Man's Sky is a game that will never end.

Shouldn't the box say console exclusive? Sony's publishing the game on consoles.

No, not because it's "indie", but because it doesn't look like a game I'd find particularly engaging for long enough.

That is not exactly a top selling point. There are plenty of great games that do have an end that I never finished.

Understandable. Just making sure you're not one of those "indie games shouldn't cost more than $15" people, since the claim makes no sense. Not all indie games are the same quality. I myself am not sure of all the details regarding this game yet. The trailers are great and the art is beautiful, but that's about all I know.

People complain about multiplayer only games and single player fighting game features in games that have infinite replay value. I don't agree... but that's a common complaint. And lots of games that never end cost less than $60. The real question is if the content keeps us compelled to play it forever.

So is there an online multiplayer side to this or will the game be just some single player exploration thing?

Doesn't seem a game worthy of a full retail price to me, but they've been sort of vague from the beginning when it comes to announcing and showing features.

I'm not sure why so many people are worried about never encountering another player. Under normal circumstances sure, it's too vast. But they wouldn't have made it multiplayer if they thought players would never meet up so I'm sure there are aspects of the game implemented solely to somehow bring players closer to each other. Maybe not initially, but eventually, and that's probably the way it's designed. The game may not meet up to the initial hype and may be somewhat limited in all the things you can do, but I still think it will be worth the price. I have no expectations really, but still fairly excited.

Well, it's released on PC at the same time, so not really console exclusive :)

After reading all recent hands-on previews, I will gladly shell out money on it. This game feels like a perfect relaxant after hard day at work. Not to mention that I strongly believe it'll have PSVR support.

the worry stems from the sheer size of this thing

there are apparently 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 procedurally generated planets that would take 585 billion years to see them all just for 1 second, separated by god know how much space. and then each planet is a realistically sized planet. imagine the odds of stumbling across someone, even if there were 5 million people playing at any given time (which there won't be). the MP aspect seems to simply be the fact people are exploring the universe the same as you, naming creatures and planets etc. it sadly doesn't seem to be about any sort of co-op or competitive aspect. unless of course the center of the universe everyone is aiming for is just one massive space/land based clusterfuck of a deathmatch?

i mean, this is what the developer had to say about it:

“[Your friends] will be a long way away. People keep asking us about multiplayer and I think when people see this they are going to fully realize what it means to be that far away from somebody else who’s playing…

“People keep saying to us, ‘Yeah, but what if I knew where they were? Would I go there?’ And it’s like, yeah, but they are going to have to stay there for quite a while while you get over there. And then once you get over there you might land on the same planet and then you will say, ‘I’m on a planet the size of Earth and I am on a mountain. Where are you?'”

i mean, when the dev is saying that i think it's pretty certain you ain't going to be seeing anyone in this game at any point no matter how long you play it.

The vastness of the map is a bullshit excuse. At least a few thousand players will eventually travel to the center of the galaxy, certainly some people would meet there. Let's be serious and realistic here.
Elite Dangerous has a huge number of systems and it still has a proper multiplayer. Friends online would always like to meet up, no matter the distance or the vastness.

If they can't come up with multiplayer, they could've said it and be done with that. Just don't give gamers a bullshit answer and expect serious people to believe this.

I agree with you about the game not meeting the hype it has right now. They still have to show more things. I need to see the game being handed to a gamer(not a IGN journo letting the dev dictate where he should go) and let him go anywhere he wants and to do anything he wants, go through different systems and do anything out of the norm we've been seeing here.

Hopefully when this arrives at Xbox One we'll know what the game is about and if it will be worth the full retail price.

I'm a little skeptical of their claims that you can encounter other players in the universe. Whenever it comes up they they always say that while it's possible it's very unlikely because of the vastness of the universe, seemingly brushing it off. That kind of capability would not be trivial to implement (mucho coding + dedicated servers?), the investment doesn't sense for such an apparently small return.

i'm hoping the same for elite dangerous when that hits PS4. the promised vastness of space (400 billion systems i believe) and planet landing that isn't shit... who knows, maybe both will be worth the asking price before space citizen is released and they both become redundant. haha.

I think allowing for chance encounters with other players only adds to how interesting the game is. Exploring planets by yourself with the knowledge that there are others in the universe is kinda poetic and fits right in.

Why not just enjoy what they're offering up and allow a sequel or mod to worry about multiplayer additions?

This isn't Lionhead/Molyneux(sp) here, we don't know if they'll break promises yet

I really hope the PC port is a good one. Screen tear GALORE in all the new PS4 footage. To the point that at first I thought it was some sort of screen distortion effect. But nope. Just really bad screen tearing. I'd strangle myself having to play it like that. Hopefully they can get that ironed out before launch.

As for the whole MP aspect of the game, I agree with Tinks. I love the fact that it's all happening in real space in real time. Makes when/if you DO encounter another player an actual event, as it WOULD be if you were really out exploring the universe. And in the grand scheme of things, this isn't a PVP space combat sim. It's an exploration/survival game. What do you guys think you're gonna do when you encounter another player? Start a deathmatch or something?
