Halo: Spartan Assault is now available on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 (exclusive to Verizon in the USA until August 16). Therefore we offer you some videos of the first missions and the tutorial.
I guess Microsoft couldn't help NOT releasing a Gears or Halo game in the 2nd half of a year. And remember that these games are not possible on Windows XP or 7.......until the community hacks them to work with those.

Well it's obvious that they want to push their new hardware. I'm afraid we'll see a lot of Indie games exclusively on Xb1 and Ps4 that would easily be possible on the 360 or ps3

Who would get Win8 or a WinPhone to begin with ?
Seriously, you suck MS !
Well, as an owner of the Lumia 920 and having used both iPhone 4S and Galaxy S3 before it, I can honestly say that the UI is better than iOS or Android. Smooth and intuitive. Camera is great and one can easily get all the relevant apps or similar versions nowadays. App situation is also getting better at a decent speed. WP8 really is a good platform nowadays.

Those who would like to have access to latest API version or people who work with multi-screens...you know, the taskbar available to all the screens you have...better file manager and so on...

So.. no one?
I work on multiple desktops in Windows 7 just fine. And if I wanted a taskbar on all screens, I'd have them.

They are people perfectly happy with Windows XP and we can have the same discussion with those people...

Not really. No one is switching to Windows 8 just for "Spartan Assault," and no one (no one) needs DirectX11.1. It's not exactly easy to get any game that forgoes DX9 support to work in XP. The gap between XP and Windows 7 is far more significant.
You can want it all you want. But you don't need it for anything.
There are plenty of reasons to buy it. Like, if you're buying a new computer. Because it's pretty much your only option. I'm not denying that we'll all need to move on eventually. There's just not a lot of compelling reasons to do it now. If you're sitting pretty in Windows 7, the most significant changes are superficial.
If anything, it's more or less like skipping Vista. Only that was a more significant update in many ways.

No you can not. No one is switching to Windows 8 just for "Spartan Assault," and no one (no one) needs DirectX11.1.
The original post from SplitTongue is the usual arrogant troll, "who is stupid enough to use Windows 8" (I translated for you what (s)he meant).

It is debatable. You can explain all the reasons you want but if the person in front of you decided that (s)he will never care about the new features because his/her current system works perfectly....same discussion...
-Why should I upgrade to Windows XP if I am happy with Windows 98?
-stability?
-I don't care about stability, my current system is ok.
...
Posted by GriftGFX
And no, I am not speaking for everyone, but it sure does seem to be a popular opinion. You can disregard the opinion part if we're just talking about the lack of compelling reasons to upgrade though. Unless you want a slate.
You can want it all you want. But you don't need it for anything.
I am working with a Wacom Cintiq which is set as expanded screen so I need the screen of the Cintiq to be completely independent of the other screen, so I appreciate a lot to be able to access the start screen whatever screen I am using and I like to be able to have the taskbar in the Cintiq screen without the need to install a third party program.
And with Windows 8.1, we will be able to configure different DPI per screen so people with high pixel density screen will be able to use at the same time in proper condition their normal screen and their high density screen....just like a current owner of a Wacom Cintiq HD13...I could also describe what other feature I like but we are not here for that.
Now you can move on and accept everyone is not like you, or just explain to me why I am wrong to be happy with my current system.
I hope you are able to see the difference between explaining that some people have good reason to switch to Windows 8 and explaining no one with half a brain has good reason to switch...
I don't need to convince you to switch as I don't care, but it would be great if the Windows 8 hater could accept the choice of others.

I hadn't seen this part but I agree with you from a general point of view.

Yeah it probably started a bit more from the hater perspective but I tried to keep it a bit more balanced afterwords. I use a 13HD as well, but I would hate having the taskbar on it. Of course, you could also just drag it from one screen to the other if you wanted to move it and did not want to use another application (although it's free so why not?). I also haven't experienced any issues having one high PPI screen and one 24" display @ 120hz. None at all.

Sure, but we're on a gaming forum and there are plenty of compelling reasons to have DirectX11. I think there are people who could get on with Windows XP still and I see no particular problem with someone doing so if it suits their needs.

Yes, as I have said, I have my reason and you have yours.
A Cintiq is used most of the time tilted to 45° at least which mean it is definitely not aligned to the other screen and...
Starting an application from the main screen using the digitizer requires you use the "display toggle" from the express keys or from the radial menu so the Cintiq surface can support the two screens...so I could start my programs from the main screen and press again the "display toggle" to use the Cintiq at its original state....seriously, it is far easier to start or switch a program from the Cintiq screen instead of such workaround. But hey, if you prefer your way, that's your opinion.
However, you can auto hide the taskbar if you want (unfortunately, it works for the both screens actually)

About the high density screen, it depends on the program you are using and the size of the target you have in its UI...and where are those target as all the Cintiq are less precise at the screen borders.

I agree with you from a gaming perspective (directX)...mmh, but I love to be able to play small games for 5 minutes if I want and to switch to something else without the need to close them.
I can't do that with Win32 games which are always using my CPU when they are in background. It is also a real pain sometime to just return to the desktop without leaving a game when using one screen because of the legacy bad full screen API.
In fact, as I am using hibernation instead of shutting down my OS, I can start a small game and if I have stuff to do, just switch to something else leaving it for a week if I want in tombstone state. A week later, I can open the game exactly where I quitted it (when the game has been correctly developed). When I compare to using steam which is so long to just start...Well, I avoid to buy small games on Steam.

Bah...there's a $70 OEM version of windows 8 on newegg if it's that big of a deal.
Microsoft was pushing upgrades for $40 when it first came out. Still too much! :P

There's no "workaround" needed. I start Photoshop. It opens on my Cintiq. I'm done. I start Manga Studio. It starts on the screen it was closed on, etc. I want to start another program while working on my Cintiq? I do it on the other screen. It's not a hassle. Not even a little. Wasting screen real estate on a taskbar and having to go to a full-screen menu to launch an application doesn't actually improve the speed of your workflow!
I don't even use the display toggle. If I need something on the other desktop I just grab my mouse. It's less than a foot away from my Cintiq anyway. And I still need to use my keyboard for hotkeys.
There aren't enough buttons on the Cintiq to forgo using the keyboard completely.
The 13HD works perfectly fine in Windows 7. Absolutely perfectly fine. The like four seconds it takes to drag Photoshop from one desktop to the other is not something I need a new operating system for :D
About the high density screen, it depends on the program you are using and the size of the target you have in its UI...and where are those target as all the Cintiq are less precise at the screen borders.
Oh, so you can make the UI/text larger on the high PPI screen. That is cool. But the 13HD doesn't jitter at the edges like the 12WX did. They've improved the response/accuracy/jitter on the 13HD quite a bit. I have no problem quickly selecting the little pull-downs on the very right edge of the screen in Photoshop, or tools on the left. At 1080p. That's fairly impressive when you consider just how jittery the 12WX was on the edges. The 13HD minimizes this tremendously. It's no longer a real issue.
I'd keep everything small even if I had the option. I appreciate having more room to work. I would want a task bar if I had the 22HD though!
Seriously. You don't need Windows 8 to use a 13HD. Not even a little. But I'm not going to tell you not to enjoy the improved dual screen support. Or anything else about it! But comparing it to jumping from Windows XP to Windows 7 is a little ridiculous in my opinion. On the practical end of things, there's not really much Windows 8 does that anyone needs.

I am using a 22HD and I found that smaller target could be an issue. Or maybe, the distance screen/cursor on the 13HD is reduced compared to the 22HD, I don't know.
About the lack of precision at the edge of the screen, after calibrating the Cintiq, the cursor at the edge is definitely not where it is supposed to be.

I could work on XP you know. The difference is I preferred a lot to work on Windows 7. There was absolutely no need of Windows 7 but it was a much better experience...and that's the same with Windows 8. Remember, it's all about personal taste.
The "only" difference now and it is important, I could perfectly work on Windows 7...and I would probably hate to work again on XP :p And the word hate is not strong enough!

It's not perfect on the 13HD, but it's pretty close. Especially compared to the 12WX. I haven't used the 22HD so I can not compare. I would have expected it to perform better.

Well, for you, I guess.. this is about taste. A lot of people could not work on Windows XP. Everyone can on Windows 7.

Nah, Vista was like Windows 8. The cocked up first attempt at a new version of Windows.
But I think they're going to tough this one out. The one-size-fits-all design philosophy they're driving towards makes sense for Microsoft. It's probably not a good sign for the desktop market, but we've known that was doomed on the consumer end for some time now :D

Glad you got that right. The UI is just plain horrible, just like the XBox's stupid Dashboard. I'll never get used to this bloated confusing shit of an UI, and honestly: I don't want to.
