First 10 minutes PC

Montague's Mount has been available for a few weeks now, but Gamersyde ony had the chance to play this independent adventure game recently. To find out what we think about it and discover 4 gameplay videos, you know what to do.

Impressions

For barely €6 now, Montague's Mount proposes you to visit a deserted Irish island where the weather is as harsh as the environment and the local mysteries. The game deals with an epidemic and the main character's amnesia, which will lead the player to understand what happened on this desperate stretch of land. After reading quite a good number of negative reviews concerning PolyPusher Studios' title, we were a bit wary to say the least. Yet, despite what some might consider as flaws, like the slowness of the injured main character, the lack of guidance when it comes to solving puzzles and the game's short length - barely 3 to 4 hours -, there is definitely something mesmerizing about Montague's Mount. The setting itself brings a lot to the atmosphere, and although some puzzles did require a bit of time for us to solve, we never felt they were unsolvable. Observing and searching the dark environment is key to making progress in the game and there's a good chance that the slow pace won't appeal to everyone. That being said, provided you don't mind taking your time and walking back and forth, Montague's Mount is cheap enough to be worth your while. It may not be the best looking indie game out there, but the shadow effects convey a very effective atmosphere and make the game quite immersive in the end. Also note that there is a beta compatibility with Oculus Rift but we haven't had a chance to try it yet.
