As much as i love BF3, This is more BF3.5 imo.

Graphically there are a few enchancements.

Nothing still touches Crysis3.

crysis 3 has 77 on metacritic so it's a good thing that it doesnt touch it. it isn't a good game

Locked to 60 fps, and some rare frame drops to 50-55 without capturing.

Only way of playing this game, with a damn mouse. If controls is anything like BF3 on consoles, then its pure shit. Clunky and stiff, cant deal with that.

Im sure, this game looks amazing, but in this level, it really doesnt seem like it needs the PC with specs mentioned in the description. Strange.

This beta eats too much CPU, both of my 680's are between 40 and 70% loaded depending on the scene.

Does BF3 really do any better? My GPU usage (and CPU usage) in BF3 are also crap. I don't actually expect this to get much better personally.

And they want to sell us on Mantle. Try optimizing directx first.

I hope you already have a Mantle capable GPU to be making such a claim prior to final optimization and prior to a single Mantle benchmark.

Although.. given BF3's poor GPU usage.. it's not a big stretch.

Love the arguing in the second video.

Did you notice any stuttering when playing? Seems like it's only AMD users getting the rough end of that. Hopefully they don't use that as an excuse and leave it as it is just to have an excuse for pushing Mantle.

Battlelog and in-game are filled with mostly nvidia users complaining.. So I'm not sure where that impression came from. All DX performance is currently very poor.

Grift, a lot of Nvidia users have the option to alleviate the stuttering by downloading the latest beta drivers. I've read and heard from people that it does at least help somewhat. AMD users have nothing so far to help. Zippo. diddly-squat. Fuck all. Even on the lowest settings, it stutters. That's where the impression comes from. Myself being an AMD gpu user, I've searched for solutions to help with it, but came up with nothing. nV at least seem to have better drivers, which is a clear indication that the game isn't optimized as well as it should be. That's a good thing in fact. Because at least we can all hope that the issues will be resolved and the performance will improve drastically.

I was talking graphics. But gameplay wise there's nothing wrong with Crysis3. I don't go with metacritic. You cannot judge a game on other people opinions.

As for BF4 beta,. it's early days. But performance needs to improve, bits of building floating in mid air with stretched necks. Guess i expected more.

Weird. I know a lot of AMD users and they keep telling me how "great" it runs. Granted, some people just think "1080p/60fps!" = great. I think actually using a significant fraction of the available resources would be "great." Nvidia always has better software. And they have better engineers. That's why I'm a little wary of AMD's software solution. That's how they're playing catch-up with a seven month old GPU. But yeah.. the current beta is certainly an un-optimized mess. It looks considerably worse than BF3 on identical settings and runs much worse.

As I mentioned to Driftwood, I'm not holding out for perfect optimization. BF3 only uses about ~60% of my GPU too, and even less of the CPU.

I can lock this down to 60fps but the performance is definitely not great by any means.

There are far more complaints about Nvidia performance but maybe that's just because Nvidia users expect more.

I played the beta a bit and unfortunatly I was not really impressed.. It does not look that much different from BF3.. The beta map looks and feels empty to me, I'm missing any atmosphere in the game..

I played on a 7970 rig. The frame rate was all over the place. This is why PC gaming isn't worth it IMO. Shit is way too expensive and a disappoint when your $400 GPU can't run the game maxed out

Or...the beta just plain sucks with its performance optimization, not the first PC game with this problem.

It's fairly obvious that some people are fortunate to have a certain combination of hardware that it runs OK. However, the game is supposed to be fine regardless if you've a modest set up or a high end one. Even knocking down settings does not help much. There's probably a lot of garbage code still in there and a few bugs causing the poor fps and stuttering. I'm not terribly fussy when it comes to fps or resolution. If I get a consistent 40 fps or there abouts and it's smooth at a decent res with mostly high to ultra settings, then I'm fine. That's playable enough for me to enjoy and have fun. I'd expect them to patch this and roll out a better driver by the week.
