First 10 minutes PC PS4 Xbox One

As promised, here are a few more videos of the PS4 version of Thief captured in hard mode. Note that the game is running at 1080p and 30 fps with noticeable dips once in a while while the Xbox One version is "only" 900p. More videos are currently uploading, so be patient if you want to see more.
Update: Three videos added.

Thanks for the vids guys. Another game to add to the ole steam wishlist. :)

It's really a shame that the xbone can't run these early cross-generational games at native 1080p, it's only going to get worse later on.

I think it comes down to time with the hardware for some devs. There are games that run 1080p / 60fps on Xbox just like there are 30fps and sub 1080p games on PS4, but they don't get as much press.

I don't think things will "get worse later on", historically it's actually the opposite. What you see now is a lot of legacy engines, legacy techniques and cross-platform games. As devs embrace nothing but next gen, it'll all just get better.

You make valid points, but specwise the xbone is about half as powerful as the ps4, double the ROPs, more than double the mem bandwidth, 1.5 times the pixel shaders blah blah blah. It's very evident that the gap between the two is huge. But you are right though, optimisation goes a long way, but it costs money.

As long as the game is in a forward rendering engine, xbone should do fine. It's why forza, sports games and the upcoming wolfenstein are all 1080/60. Whereas games like thief and BF and most engines aren't (deferred rendering)

You can find out about what games use what engines on the net quite easily. Frostbite and cryengine are deferred rendering engines for instance. Tech 5 and ignite are forward rendering engines. The former requires a ton of mem bandwitdth, the latter does not. Hence why the xbone isn't as shit at handling them.

@KORNdog - how is Theif? I'm sure you got it. I'm on the fence about getting it, and I'm just curious if it's worthy of a purchase?

it's only a real shame if the games good and actually decent looking - neither can really be applied here.

Just finished it. I totally loved it, a few flaws like poor A.I and far too many loading times but overall a great game, totally worth it.

Long loading times huh? I keep hearing that was supposed to be an issue that would be solved this time around. Then again we've hearing that since last gen as well.

That is the opposite of how development curves are. What are you smoking?
The Xbox will never match the PS4, but it does FINE. The difference between 900p and 1080p for the console crowd isn't that big. And the Xbox One has well known issues with the development tools available compared to the (from what I've heard) fairly great dev tools on the Sony side. This is a problem that can easily be fixed with some effort on Microsoft's part. And the Xbox One also has a bigger learning curve regardless just because it has a pretty neat, but unusual feature (SRAM) that devs don't know what to do with or how to use it just yet from the looks of it.
This game is poorly optimized. People really need to stop looking at bad games to show how the Xbone is lacking. Ryse looks awesome and ran pretty consistently for the most part. Killzone might look a little sharper in some ways but I think Ryse does better in others.
The Xbone does fine. It's not a PS4, but it's not some doomsday scenario because the thing can't do an extra 10% of resolution. And it's also hard to compare the HARDWARE when the development side of things is where the real issue is.
And again, this is a fucking shitty game with awful optimization, even on PS4 which still runs poorly and doesn't actually look much better.
If you think that kind of stuff matters, join us over on the PC side and stop complaining about 150px.

Just a heads up, I am a PC gamer, i7 at 4+GHZ, 780 GTX Ti, 18GB system ram etc etc, I game at native 1440p. I just think that M$ releasing an inferior product for much more money is completely absurd.

I get that the PS4 version doesn't run at a stable 30 fps at 1080p. But does the Xbox One version run solidly at 30 fps? If that's the case, I don't mind the resolution. In fact, I'd rather have 30fps 900p than < 30 fps 1080p.

Dude, you really need to listen what developers are saying. They are NOT saying it is "learning curve". The DDR3 thing is simply a hindrance.

"There are xbox fans who think esram is this mystical thing when all it is is cumbersome, bottlenecking memory. But its in there so it HAS to be special. When I hear people say devs need to just utilize esram better, its like saying they need to learn how to do the most basic thing again. Esram isn’t rocket science, it isn’t even complex. Its just a pain in the a**. That’s it."

Your fucking high dude. The PS4 is more powerful. But saying twice as powerful, or huge, is retarded.

The PS4 has a better GPU. That's it. Doesn't make it 50% more powerful.

Instead of making an asinine comment like that, use facts and figures to prove your point or disprove my point.

Have you not noticed that most games on the PS4 run at native 1080p whilst their xbone counterparts run at 720p(LESS THAN HALF THE RESOLUTION).

Titanfall runs on a 10 year old engine (source) at a shitty 720p resolution on the xbone, that is a damn shame and there is no other explanation for it, other than the xbone is an overpriced piece of garbage. Digital Foundry had this to say about it "once again we see £100 GPUs besting the console experience". A real damn shame if you ask me. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2...

If you actually think the xbone is good value for money then good luck with that.
