GSY Video PC PS4 Xbox One

After 5 years of absence, The Elder Scrolls series is back on PS4, Xbox One and PC, but instead of a sequel, we are given a port of the fifth episode with enhanced graphics and the addition of mods in the console versions (limited to what can be done with the original assets on PS4). The Elder Scrolls V: Special Edition still runs at 30 fps on Xbox One and PS4, but this time, the frame-rate is steady, making it a more pleasant experience than on 360 and PS3 5 years ago. Check out our videos inside to see what the game looks like on Sony's console.

I'm enjoying it right now. Never was able to run such a game on my PC so I had to play the 360 and PS3 version. Although I enjoyed them, they certainly had their issues.

I wish more open world games used a compass line instead of a minimap. So many game worlds are ruined by constantly using the minimap for everthing. The only upcoming game that hasn't have a minimap from what i ve seen is Horizon.

I remember a time when you had a quest log and had to use your good ol' noodle to find stuff. I like that. I guess that's too difficult nowdays though. I mean, i still think Morrowind is probably the best TES game, because it doesn't hold your hand so much.

I remember Morrowind for what you're talking about. The best skill needed? Imo, having to actually know how to read a map with an ability to look for actual landmarks in game.

Well, not having a compass or minimap tp guide you all over means you habe to explore, which means that younstumble over stuff by accident. Whuch in turn means that you will usually have your own path through the game to a larger extent.

But also not having fast travel as readily available forces the player to explore. Then again, with Oblivion and scales loot, wxploration lost its point in TES anyway.

Based on what they said about the limitations of the PS4 and not having Mod Support, does that mean Mods are supported on the Xbox One/S then?

I'm pretty sure xbox supports mods but they said ps4 will too, just not custom content such as models textures and sounds.
Sony will not allow genitalia and the like on ps4.

In Morrowind if you paid attention to the quest giver and used the skills I'm talking about, you didn't really need any minimaps or a compass. The paper map was marked North and that's all one needed to find something, again providing you used the skills, I've talked about. Yes it might take time for a person to find something but you'd eventually find it. The only place I had trouble, the cave with moon n star ring in it. It was like my nemisis in later playthroughs, lol.

The almost unlimited alchemy system in Morrowind was amazing at the time. You could have tons of ingredients, now you're lucky if a game lets you carry 20 of something. In Star Wars Galaxies mmo, you could have blocks of 999,999 of something taking up one inventory slot.

Oblivion was dumbed down to the max, boring compared to Morrowind for myself but everyone is different, I get that.

Using Mark and Recall wisely in Morrowind wasn't as good as fast travel, I agree but it did the job. Morrowind for me, was the best of the 3 games that hit console. I didn't get to play Arena/Daggerfall. I've heard, those are even better depth wise. Of course one might have to put up with obtuse mechanics I'm guessing.

Jabosha:
I think you might have misunderstood me. I totally agree with all of that. As for Fast Travel, i think it was GOOD that morrowind didn't have it available form anywhere to anywhere. Being smart about it and forcin players to walk means they will find more neat stuff. Which is good.

Grift:
I agree. Unfortunately i think Skyrim kept a lot (most) of the stuff that made Oblivion a much worse game than Morrowind. I mean, they do a much better job with the world and stories, but the loot and leveling systems are still rather lackluster imo. Which ultimately hugely impacts exploration and combat. Wish there was a mod like Oscuro's for Skyrim :/

I bought the game for my Xbox One last week, i just wanted to get back to it so bad and the addition of mods is great. 49 euros isn't full price so that's good.I could even have gotten it for 35 but that would have meant a waiting time of two weeks, nah!

Absolutely loving it again. Just exploring around, finding loot, reading stuff, taking in the atmosphere, all of that is still great. There's much more foliage in certain places and the new lighting effects when they appear are nice. Sadly of course still the same shitty looking character models and for the most part bad voice acting, with a few exceptions. It was utterly ridiculous in 2011 that a key character(s) in the game would have the exact same damn voice and accent as a simple Whiterun guard, looking at you....Schwarzenegger-like voice, Jesus, and it is still ridiculous now. Sword combat also remains unchanged and while it's really not too good, it isn't ruining my fun. But for the sake of God please let BGS come with a much much better combat system for TES VI in 2025/2030 (doubt we'll see it any sooner) where it actually feels like you are hitting a person instead of a wall or tree. Look at Dishonored 2 for that maybe. Luckily we of course also have magic and archery and that's still a lot of fun in my book.

Aren't there any combat mods for the Xbone version? I know there are a bunch that makes combat more fun in the PC version at least...but i suppose they might require SKSE? Can't remember.

Yeah Megido, apology is in order. I missed your post about you liking what Morrowind did, thus taking your other posts as unwarranted criticism against Morrowind for what it did at the time. Sorry about that.

I also agree with your reply to Grift. Skyrim was still too dumbed down.

Well, the fact that the charge 40 euros for a slight improvement in graphics as compared to the vanilla version that goes for like 15 wingwangs, and can be prettier with free mods, makes me think it's a wee bit silly.

Yeah it looks pretty much how I remember it looking 5 years ago. I'm sure side-by-side comparisons would prove otherwise but, meh. Great game for anyone who may have missed out on it when it first came out. Full price tho...

Luckily I bought this game years ago with all dlc and have never played it. So I get the update for free and it will be like a new game experience.

I got it for free on Steam. But if I had to pay full price for what looks like a rather marginal upgrade over the original, and still only 30fps on consoles, I'd be a little annoyed.
