Video PS4

REZ Infinite is a remastering of the classic Dreamcast and PS2 published by SEGA and developed by Sega's United Game Artists in November 2001. REZ Infinite sees an addition Stage called Area X, developed for PS4 and the PlayStation VR.

And as far as I'm concerned its a MUST play in VR. The player uses their head to lock onto targets, this makes the game in my opinion far more enjoyable and much more natural. If you owe PlayStation VR then this is a must for your collection.

This game releasing on VR feels like a 90's piece coming late. Sooo weird!
Game looks fun.
I'm playing Thumper on traditional screen and it's already quite the experience...

It works so well with VR, a match made in Eden.

That's the great thing about VR for me. Older games with this kind of abstract style would actually be enhanced. Reminds me of the PSX Demo 1 disc where you played music and it made trippy shapes and colours. Also Lawnmowerman's VFX.

Music visualisation also.
Early VR looks like it's exactly where we left it in the 90's.
That's how i sould have phrased it.

I'd reassess that view tbh. 90's VR was nothing more than smoke and mirrors. It didn't actually work, and what was there just looked like that Dire Straights video, only worse. The only playable VR back then was Virtual Boy, and it was just a fancy Tomytronic.

I had a Virtual Boy. Mario tennis was awsome.
Vr now has the atmosphere of what it was pretending to be.
How they viewed it back then in those mockup screenshots.
I still remember sega trying to make it a thing.

It wouldn't have been too long if it wasn't for the fact that VR would have been a too small niche in an industry that wasn't very big back then.
Oh and proper motion detection that is.(i think wii was the first cunsumer grade vers of that tech?)

Only 2016 Sony has the possibility to make it mainstream, with occulus and vive ready to be the pc equivalent for big multiplats.
All they need are Catchy AAA projects.
But will it stick?

VR needs a "killer app" but no publisher is willing to take the risk.

Kinda sad but i can't say i blame them.
Since Sony put a lot of money in there with PS VR,
maybe they'll do something about it and maybe a succes on their end will convince others.

Not entirely true. My first (consumer) vr experience was with the Forte VFX1 back in 1995. The tech wasn't quite there yet, but it worked well enough with a selection of games. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0n5B3fl-bU#t=00h0...

Wow the VFX1 was more than 1000 bucks with ajusted inflation.
Was Doom in stereo?

Didn't try doom, but Flight Unlimited were stereo.

About the framerate. It was far smoother when i played Flight Unlimited than what was shown in that YT vid, so i guess it depended on the PC hardware. the VFX1 had a 60hz refresh, not sure if the tracking worked at 60fps though.

Yeah, but that would cost what? A couple of grand, plus hardware to run it on, plus support. Unrealistic for mainstream. Very unrealistic. That's not even taking the performance of the things into consideration, even when running at it's maximum capacity.

As for the AAA games debate. It's early days. I'd argue Rez, whilst not exactly AAA, is a fairly polished product, as is the Playroom, even if they are just tasters. They show the potential, which is what it's all about at the moment. I swear, people just have no patience these days. They want blockbusters straight out the gate with something as niche as this? Not going to happen. It'll take time, and even at that, there's Resident Evil 7 in a couple of months, which hopefully will be the platform's first true killer game.

The VFX 1 was 600$ according to the video.

Yeah, surprising for back then. I'm thinking of the big clunky fuckers that had the stand in stations. Those weren't cheap.

You're thinking about the Virtuality machines from early 90's. They were not consumer electronics, obviously. And the games looked like the 3D in Money For Nothing (like you said). They had an Amiga 3000 under the hood, which with it's (at the time) relatively weak CPU and planar pixel mode wasn't very suited for 3D graphics.

Yeah, that's always the image of 90's VR that I remember. Oddly enough, films like Hackers, which came out in 1995, had a scene with those in it. I didn't think they evolved much beyond that.
