GSY Video PC

The Town of Light is clearly not a game for everyone. First, it's what people now call a "walking simulator", a genre that many want to stay away from because of the usual absence of real gameplay mechanics that come with it. Secondly, its main topic (medical institutions for the mentally ill in the early 20th century) is undeniably disturbing. It is based on true historical facts, the hospital where the story is set, having existed for real. Finally, the game still suffers from quite severe stuttering issues which are quite annoying.

Do companies really make money off of these walking simulators? I don't think this one will. Mediocre visuals and a distinct lack of gameplay elements aren't even the worse part of this game. That voice acting is so... damn... terrible. It's the fucking William Shatner of voice acting.

Non-marketed ones barely sell on PC.

i thought this LOOKED quite nice visually, outdoors wise anyway. they all lack traditional gameplay. but that's not why people play them. they play them for the immersion and the narrative, sometimes the story and plot too, but they're usually secondary. this reminds me of everybody's gone to the rapture. which i really enjoyed. the voice acting is indeed awful though. it's like original PSone Resident evil levels of bad. lol

I think it looks great from a visual standpoint. I haven't played it so I don't know whether it is boring or not. Personally I love a game with a good story and some puzzles even if it lacks tradional gameplay elements, the problem with these 'walking simulators' is that sometimes they are nothing but that, walking and looking and that's boring as hell. There are other games like "The vanishing of Ethan Carter" which in my opinion are great, though it does have puzzles and story.

Maybe I was too harsh on the visuals, but this game still looks boring.

I've never been a big fan of games like The Vanishing of Ethan Carter and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, but I understood their appeal. Not this one though. Maybe with VR my opinion of walking simulators will change, but that's still not a guarantee.

Side note: I could go to a creepy place and pretend to be crazy in real life. I don't need this simulator for that. This game needs more excitement & intrigue in the story. It also needs a re-dub.

You question these games (walking sims) making any money and in the next post you say you understand their appeal. What?
