Video PC PS3 Vita

Proteus came out on PC about a year ago and it was finally released on Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita last Tuesday. The game is cross-buy, which means you get both versions for the same price: €12.99 / $13.99 (with a 10% discount for all PS+ members in the next two weeks). We edited one video of the PS3 version and uploaded a gallery of images from the Vita version, so enjoy the peaceful ride!

Impressions

The first thing to know before launching Proteus is that it's not a game per se. Indeed, withtout any type of narrative elements or even gameplay mechanics, it is hard to consider it as your typical indie title. All you have to do is enjoy a nice stroll on a 3D deserted island where nature seems to have been modeled in good old 2D. The day/night cycle, the passing of time which makes you go from spring to winter, the weather effects, everything is made to provide a very relaxing experience. Wandering around for no other purpose than to look at a sunset or the local fauna won't please everyone, but there is no denying that it is particularly soothing. Proteus is so smooth on both systems that it adds to the overall zen vibe the title has, and since what "happens" is random, there is no real certainty when you play it again. That being said, we're not sure many people will enjoy one playthrough, let alone several of them, but you won't know unless you try. The main problem is that Proteus is still a bit expensive, and however beautiful it is, its price tag may be enough of a deterrent the most curious amongst you guys.

@Drift (and anyone interested)

Not sure if you heard of this game before, but ...But That Was [Yesterday] is a great indie game, it's free and very short (around 10-15 minutes).

Also, the soundtrack is so great that I couldn't get it out my head, so I even downloaded it, it is also for free and made by the creator of the game.

To sell how much it is worth playing ...But That Was [Yesterday], it is kind of like Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons, but very short.

The link with all the downloads is below:

There's also a review of the game on PCWorld, though since it is so short and quite easy, it's better to read it after playing the game, but a few sentences below indicate what they thought of the game:

"Browser-Based Game But That Was Yesterday Is Lovely, Thought-Provoking";

"This is a fairly difficult review to write, because talking about this short, free, browser-based game pretty much undermines the main pleasure of it, which is understanding it. Simply put, But That Was Yesterday is a metaphorical/symbolic walk through dealing with stress and lingering emotional issues, with platform jumping. Yeah, I know how that sounds. Really, it has to be played.";

"Playing the entire story (regardless of ending) from beginning to end takes only a few minutes, and you'll probably know in a minute or so if you want to finish it or not. It's certainly not for everyone--it's abstract, symbolic, emotional, and more about evoking mood and understanding than it is about killing things, solving puzzles, or unlocking achievements."

PS. I cried at the end. Yes, it's that good. :)
