I need to play this game so badly. People recomende some good 50's Noir/Detective thrillers. Last one I can remmmber was Black Dahlia & Hollywoodland wich seems ages ago. Great, great flicks.

not much of a looker, and i'm worried about who's developing the game (getaway 1/2 wernt very good open world games) but the facial animation looks awesome. just need to see if the long dev cycle has paid off.

LA Confidential and Chinatown for modern noir. The black-and-white ones are the 50s ones you want that are classics, like Double Indemnity. Try out this blog, very helpful. http://www.greencine.com/static/primers/noir.jsp

The only question i ask with this is; How will the gamepaly hold up? I'm so sick of rockstar games that could have been great but control and play like utter ass.

I really like the lightning in those screenshots. Can't wait to see some actual gameplay. Hope it does well! :D

Also, as some people are talking about noir films, may I recommend "Give 'Em Hell, Malone". It's an independent over the top noir detective story. Although it's really cheesy the movie was entertaining. Go look for it!

Only thing that looks wrong is characters models, they desperately need more polygons and better texturing.

You must see BRICK, a noir murder drama set in a highschool setting. The dialog is gumshoe, so it can be very weird hearing teenagers talking like that.

It won't be a shooter. More of an adventure game, like Heavy Rain. A detective sim. More detailed impressions from Kotaku

lol, seen. biggest Joseph Gordon-Levitt performance before the big heavy hitters with 500 days and Inception.

I think i'll stay with korean murder/serial killer thrillers till there is more stuff to see.

Let's hope that they remedy the things that make Heavy Rain, and i quote, "a big stack of poo-poo pancakes". Namely bad controls, unengaging (read unexisting) gamepaly and garbage story.

we can but hope it will be as good as heavy rain. but i have a feeling it'll esentially be "vintage getaway". wonder if the "lean on wall" healing mechanic returns for this game...lol.

this will test whether 'mediocre dev studio + tons of money = great game'. i dont think it's going to work out for them. in fact. i'd put money on the studio closing it's doors not long after the game has released.

Seeing as how sony keeps pumping money in to quantic dream, mediocrity is obviously not a problem :P

yet to play a mediocre quantic dream game. omikron, fahrenheit, heavy rain. brilliant games. there is obviously talent and ability there, the money just lets you go further with it. lets see if the getaway guys are good enough to do the same. i doubt it tho.

fact that it's multiplatform, and rockstar promoting it, i reckon it'll do alright in the sales.. even if not in the reviews.

I really hope it's good though. I simply want GTA4's open world, mixed with Mass effects attention to setting and story. Worrys me we're not seeing any gameplay though..just cutscenes

I just think you are confusing "something nobody else does" with brilliant games. Explain to me how what is done in Fahrenheit or Heavy Rain does anyhitng brilliantly from a game perspective? They do things in a way taht few or no other games do, but that does not make them brilliant games.

If you were to take a game like Heavy Rain and add more interesting gameplay to it, then i might think that yes, it's indeed a brilliant game. But as it is now it's more like watching a movie with QTE's superimposed over it. The investigation stuff is beyond shallow, it's more about haveing a gander at all the marked spots than finding clues and solving a puzzle and why couldn't stuff like the driving sequence have actual driving? Wouldn't that be a lot more fun? I'd take a shoddy driving bit over them goddamn QTEs any day. The idiotic way of handling the multiple endings is also complete bollocks, because you never actually make any goddamn choices in the game, you only ever get a penalty for not making the button presses and thus get a shittier ending.

To me, at least, the QTEs only serve to break the immersion a movie would have, the lack of gamepaly makes it rather unengaging and the story, while it certainly has it's moments, is lackluster overall. In some cases the sum ends up being more than it's parts but i don't think that's the case here.

If LA Noire has the same idea but actually takes advantage of the fact that it's a game, then i think it will be all the better for it.

Oh stop counting polygons, the game looks fine. Also I think you're mistaken; Team Bondi didn't develop The Getaway, but the director/writer of The Gateaway founded the team specifically to make this game.

I mean really, are people just getting spoilt for graphics now a days or are they just trying to be negitive? The game looks fine, the lighting looks pretty damn great.

Heavy Rain? I don't think this game is going to be like Heavy Rain. It's going to play like GTA with "detective" mechanics.

You must have one hand or something, because the controls in games like RDR and GTA are perfectly fine.

b0vril: There's nothing wrong with my hands. I'm fully capable of playing games with good controls, but i feel they constitute a problem in GTA. Not so much that the games are unplayable, but enough that i don't find them particularly enjoyable. They feel slow, sticky and unprecise. Especially when on foot and even more so when trying to shoot or do anything that ivolves not driving a car or just walking around. I don't know how many times i've died, not because i don't know what i want to do but because the controls cock it up for me. And i've given every damn game a chance, i played GTA3, i palyed Vice City and San Andreas and i still own my copy of GTA4.

I really like the setting but I am really not a GTA fan so I hope it offers a significantly better experience.

Yeah also, please be nothing like Heavy Rain, I fully agree with the negative opinions on that one...kind of like Shenmue only a million times more boring.

Nope. This won't be a third person shooter. It'll be a graphic adventure game, like a Broken Sword game, but there will be some shooting and driving bits for the action parts of some cases that they put into the game to appeal to GTA fans.
