PC Xbox 360

Bethesda finally released some new images of Oblivion. The interesting thing here is that the first five in the gallery are all showing the destruction of a group of quite angry skeletons.

Is it me or are the graphics already beginning to show its age? I'm not saying they're bad, I think the art direction is quite something .. but there's something about it lately that I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe it's just been in development for too long, because I remember when magazine scans started appearing maybe 1-2 years ago for the game, and it blew me away. Nevertheless, I'm really looking forward to it, already have it pre-ordered, and I'm sure it'll be a breathtaking RPG experience.

i stopped looking forward to this game when:

1. I saw it in motion and the animations are shitty as they were in Morrowind.
2. I haven't seen any screens of the player being able to ride a horse (except for one of the first screens ever) so Im guessing they took that feature out?
3. The gfx dont impress me anymore. It seems like the developers are all for making a good graphics engine for the game but putting it to good use is what counts most. Like, I played Shadow of the Colossus and it has some of the best visuals I've seen, everything is so well artisticly put together and its for PS2. Thats true talent.

I'm pretty sure you can still get a horse. One of the more recent updates about the game say that they are hoping to have downloadable content for the it and they mentioned new armor for your horse.

So you stoppped looking forward to this because the garphics don't impress"you",and because you assume bethesda removed horse riding, and of course RPG's are known to be the leaders in graphics, physics, and animations,am i right?

Oh and Team ico is definately talented. Getting a game to run at smooth and crisp 12 fps definately takes alot of programmer skills and talent

Don't pay attention to that person. The animations are godly. Players react to location- based damage, and it uses the Havok 3 engine to awesome effects.

I assume by bad animations, he was talking about the dog and its owner scene in one of the videos. The dog looked a bit funny, and the owner looked funny while petting the dog. But that seems to be a problem with the dog, not the people.

This are Xbox 360 pictures, no pictures of PC are 16:9. I heard that graphics where downscaled because of the bad framerate. Very strange Xbox 360 is such a powerfull console if you look at the specifications, but even the first version of Oblivion couldnt run smooth, i dont get it.

lol yeah man, i guess. But thats my opinion i know a lot of people will like it. By crappy animations i mean they're choppy like...they dont flow together at all. Like performing different actions it just switches to the different animations. Shit i dont know how to explain it just watch that super long video preview for Oblivion.

There's no reason that Oblivion PC wouldn't support 16:9--many PC games support widescreen monitors in 16:10 and 16:9 aspect ratios; 1600x900 is not an uncommon resolution in games that have support for widescreen monitors.

However, these are obviously 360 screenshots because 1) pretty much all PC shots i've seen of this game have soft shadows--where are they here? and 2) the menu screen has left and right button indicators, last i checked there are no triggers on my mouse and keyboard. 3) lastly and not least--this is exhibiting pretty poor texture filtering--for some reason a common problem on these early 360 titles..where's the anostropic filtering?

It sounds like Bethesda is (sadly) having some problems with the 360 programming, as the 360 version should look better but they are having some problems with framerate and it doestn have soft shadows.

The graphics almost seem dated now that ive seen that Lost Planet trailer on my TV(direct feed 720p=WOW) That game just looks so awesome.

Maybe this is the largest and most detailed game world ever committed to a system and the developers over estimated just what they could do?

i enjoyed it as most others did with the framerate. It wasnt as slow as 12 fps tho, and it fit the game well, i never even noticed it.

no f'ing way, they took out soft shadowing from the 360 version??? Screw that, the gfx are one of the few things that were keeping me at all interested in this game...what a disapointment.

They are having issues with the 360, right?

Well the delay was because of the 360 version. I see no reason to be upset. All will be fixed eventually.

It's because they're having problems with the 3 in order CPUs, computer CPUs are out of order and require much less optimization. However they are much larger and therefore do not produce good enough yeilds to sell in a home console, especially in a multicore architecture, which is why the 360 doesn't have em. One 360 CPU on it's own has a hard time holding up to even mainstream PC CPUs so unless they parallelize their code over at least 2 of the CPUs the games will suffer. So while porting from pc was easy on the Xbox because of the similar architectures, it is now much more of a hurdle. The Xbox 360 is not" easy to program for, it's only a little easier than the transistor nightmare that is the PS3. The Revolution will be easy to program for, but will be maxed out within it's first year of shelflife.

I am done.

if anybody else saw the leaked video from the zero hour event, pete hines said, and demonstrated the reason for the dealy,... the distant trees and mountains would blink in and out. so they are probably trying all sorts of things to figure it out.

just so you know they ARE in order CPU's but they are not as restrictive as some other designs. not every peace of code must be in exact order. if it did backwards compatibility and porting would be much harder. only if the same lines of code are being projected accross more than one core do they have to be in order. if they are different operations on each core they dont because on a single core it can work like a traditional CPU.

i think they need to spend another few months on this game

but the pressure grows when there not making money,i bet it'l just be a fancy pc port...

why dont game companies start developing only for 360,gettin the best they can out of it then port it to pc....wouldn't this b better
