lol MS<-- is bringing in the arcade maniacs.

They're trying really hard to impress, some aspects could/should be changed but that's another story.
I remember playing packman on my phone. (microsoft SPV)

Namco could have made it wide screen 720p. And microsoft didn't "bring back" anything, the provided a way for smaller developers to present content on the 360, tey aren't "trying hard to impress" in fact the fact that it's on the system impresses a lot of developers enough that they submit their games to MS. What's the problem here?

Namco arcade titles on XBLA? I wonder if we'll be seeing Tekken 3 up there in the future. I've also heard that SNK has XBLA plans (King of Fighters, anyone?) Personally I'd love to see more arcade fighters in addition to Street Fighter 2.

doubtful, considering I dont think they can shrink tekken 3 down to under 50 mb, which is the current ceiling for XBL Arcade games at the moment, by definition. I'm pretty sure that's the only prerequisite for calling something an XBL Arcade title. That's why we can get a 3D title with all the bells and whistles like Marble Blast on there and still have it called an XLA title.

I'm pretty sure the only reason for the limit is so that Core users can get in on the fun, with their silver accounts and 64mb memory cards. They are the target audiences for XLA, after all.

Edit: That said, I really hope that turdburglar with the perfect Pac-man game gets on Live to try to reclaim some fame on the leaderboard, he cracks me up whenever they feature him on tv with a videogame documentary. With any luck, they'll interview him for an XBL video. He talks about his accomplishment like he singlehandedly discovered plastic; I dont think I've ever heard anyone so full of themselves in my entire life.

Forget Tekken, get the original arcade versions of Virtua Fighter and Virtua Racing in there. I bet those being pure polygons with only backgrounds and menu art are really small, especially when they can squeeze the BGM into .wma

Come to think of it, it probably wouldnt be impossible to squeeze Daytona and Sega Rally into under 60MB either with todays audio compression etc greatness.

Meh, I really don't see myself playing Pac-Man unless it's only 25c for the download, HONESTLY. As for galaga, I never liked that game to begin with, it's a bad game actually.

Thank you Namco!

Would prefer Ms Pacman or Pacman Jr but whatever..will buy any classic Namco puts on the arcade.

And uhh, Galaga and Pacman are freaking classic games..if their not your cup of tea that's fine but there are still plenty of people that love old arcade games..Namco's classics are perfect fits for the arcade. Galaga is an awsome precursor to the schmup genre--and for a shooter from 1981 (especially if they include the upgraded versions like Galaga '88) it still holds up very well..it's one of the best games from that generation of gaming..maybe you just don't appreciate older games?

Joergen: You could probably port those games--but if MS goes easy on the file size limits, it might be possible for people to start using emulation instead..this would make it a lot easier for devs. to port over content to the arcade..if for example, Capcom could just make their own CPS2 emulator..they could easily release 100's of arcade games in a relatively short time span.

Personally, I can't wait to play Galaga...even though I have it on my PSP...Galaga with global leader boards makes me very happy :)

They should include Ms. Pacman and Pacman Jr. as part of some sort of bundle.

Not sure whether I would shell out much for a game as simple as Pacman (despite my nostalgic gaming needs) but it's really great to see a company spend more than 5 minutes thinking about the menu system and general artwork to make the re-release seem quite funky (ahem Gauntlet Live ahem).

I have a feeling they already are running emulators, from the way games like Gauntlet or Joust draw some of their screens in slow passes like the credits. And companies like Sega have used emulators to directly run old code for ages, they had a rather perfect genesis emu on the Dreamcast and perfect emus for both PS2 and xbox1. It would be a shame if MS would stop them from running emulators on the 360.

And indeed I meant true emulation. PC based genesis and snes emus even allow for online co-op through a networking layer that translates the commands as a virtual second player. Its all possible when done right.
