Grand Theft Auto : San Andreas has just been released on Xbox 360 and the port is quite awful in every possible respect. There is a bug causing the sound of the cutscenes to frequently disappear, giving you the impression that someone stepped on the remote and muted the TV. The frame rate is horribly choppy which is unacceptable considering it's a PS2/Xbox title running on a hardware that can actually have GTA IV run better (yes, it's that bad at times in San Andreas). Then, there is everything controls related, that may have been ok back in 2004 but it now feels so dated it does not really make you want to keep playing. With GTA V to come on PS4 and Xbox One, why would you even consider going back to 2004 Los Santos anyway?
Note: Videos were captured at 1080p but the game's native resolution is obviously 720p.

Commented on 2014-10-27 01:59:11As for the Xbox 360 port, I know how it is to go back and play old games, they are old even in the design, and most miss obvious things - even by the standards back then.
For example, I played Suikoden III a few years back and having to travel 30 minutes from one end of the map to the other - while battling monsters - around 50 times because the designers didn't thought a warp point was necessary annoyed the hell out of me.
"Ports" are a delicate business, if a company wants to do one right, it needs to spend a moderate amount of money, time and effort. But since most companies don't care enough about it - quick cash mentality, most ports end up being crap or miles away from what they could've been.
For those who never played GTA:SA and are interested, best to play the PC version with mods, by now any PC can play it maxed at 60fps and with mods to make it look and play better.

Commented on 2014-10-27 17:53:49 In reply to masterattI regard Vice City as the best GTA, but having recently revisited it after playing V...wasn't a good idea. The Soundtrack was still good, though.
