GSY Video PC PS4 Xbox One

For once, we are proposing you to watch, not the first few minutes of the adventure, but a couple of extracts taken after the first hour of gameplay of Alien: Isolation on PC. We'll do our best to add videos of the console versions as well, provided our copies finally find a way out of our ventilation system, but for now we'll focus on the 60 fps of the Steam version. If you're curious to know what happens in the beginning of the game, we'll also put up PC videos of the early steps into the game, just be a little patient. As you'll see, this new Alien title finally nails it, it's very atmospheric to say the least, it looks great and is truly faithful to the art style of the original movie. You can tell this game was made by fans for fans.
Update: Added four videos from the beginning of the game on PC. Note that these videos were recorded with 5.1 audio, available in the downloadable version.

Is it possible to fix the damn flickering/aliasing with forced AA? It bugs me to see that its present in the PC-version and not just on console

This game was torture to play... I don't know who's idea of fun it is to constantly hide or press 20 buttons to open a door. Amnesia did everything way better

That's because Amnesia is a fantastic, amazing and wonderful game. I'd be surprised if a franchise title like this would do anything other than production value better tbh :P

That said the hour or so that i've played of it was pretty decent, but obviously i haven't gotten very far.

I can't stand watching gamepad gameplay clips.

Then don't.

I can't stand playing with no analog controls, it's so old fashioned.

Actually gamepad gameplay results in smoother camera pans than when playing with a twitchy mouse, so I think it's more comfortable to watch. But ofcouse it's cumbersome to PLAY with a gamepad. :)

It's very easy to notice, actually. No need for button prompts at all. Watching gamepad gameplay clips is almost like watching a game played with only a keyboard; movement is very robotic. Yes, there are videos of people who are very skilled gamepad users and the movement looks less robotic but even then it's easy to spot.

I will happily point out that it's a pretty flawed game and one it showed it's hand it just turned into a clunky exploration game without any good scares. It's excellent for about an hour and then it just loses everything.
This has the atmosphere alone to keep me going. It's much better than a stereotypical creepy mansion.

To me Amnesia has a great story, that is obviously very inspired by Lovecraft (huge plus right there, love me some pulp horror), fantastic atmosphere, amazing sound design and pretty good puzzles. I agree that towards the end of the game it loses some of it's creepy atmosphere, but i still think it's easily the best horror game in recent years. Nothing short of Silent Hill 2 even touches it. But i am willing to look past mediocre graphics and somewhat unrefined controls in favor of all the stuff it does amazingly well.

As for Alien, it sure looks good and has decent atmosphere. Can't really say much more yet, but i'm not really expecting it to be the next definitive horror experience. Also i can't help but constantly compare it to the movie, which i love, and it sort of comes up a bit short. The fact that they've tried to make the space station look so much like the Nostromo is just kinda weird to me. They also have this weird visual blend of some stuff looking like goddamn atari 3200 crap, while other things look much more like something designed today, as opposed to the late 70s whence the inspiration came. I don't know. At any rate, it certainly isn't bad so far, just a few nit-picks really.

You should not get scared by a computer game, unless your a child.

This game isn't scary at all, but the game is very well made, Graphics are crisp and everything looks correct, lighting is by far the best I've seen this gen.

Gameplay is a mixture of hiding, using different things you have created and diverting the aliens attention. Android's are awesome. Flame thrower kick's ass.

Loving the game on PC atm.

Well, or i have the ability to put myself in the game. Has nothing to do with age. A game where i'm immersed and crawling through a dank cellar, with some monstrosity lumbering around making noises is scary. If you can't suspend your disbelief, how are you enjoying games at all? I mean the same statement could be used for any state of mind. You should not get excited by a computer game, unless you are a child. Makes no sense.

Have to agree that the game is really really good, the art direction, sounds and atmosphere is freaking amazing. Unlike watching videos of the game, trying to avoid the alien in real-time did indeed scare me, I never expected that to happen tbh. Then again, I never went in to this with any expectations.

Unfortunately towards the end of the game you start to get used to the behaviour of the beast, which is expected since you can't program a completely unpredictable AI. But I'm really hoping CA will continue to develop it in new DLC, make it learn new tricks to keep the player in suspense.
The beginning 10 hours of the game is easily one of the most memorable gaming experiences this year.

AI can be a problem with this game but other than that it's an absolute blast and probably one of the best SP games i've played in years. Can't remember a game that has made me scream like a little girl lol.
