Biomutant will come out tomorrow but we are allowed to share some gameplay footage of the PC version we ere sent a couple of weeks ago. After following the game's development for four years, we must say we have been disappointed in what it has to offer, not because it lacks content, but because all the different mechanics it features are not convincing enough in our book. Combat quickly becomes redundant, there is no real sense of feedback when fighting, powers are easy to dismiss as they never appear to be truly needed, and many things in the game gave us the impression that they were failed attempts at originally good ideas. For example, there are areas which can be infected with radioactivity, or too hot or too warm, and you can improve your character's resistance to those elements, but the main quest never takes you there and the only reason to go is to find loot you can easily find somewhere else (apart maybe from a bunch of objects related to a few fetch secondary quests). Also, puzzles are almost all the same and they are so easy we don't really see the point in any of them unless the game is meant for younger players... on the other hand, there's a beautiful world to explore and we truly enjoyed that aspect, but the rest isn't just interesting enough in the long run and it shows too quickly after a few hours. In the end, you might have a good time playing it as we did at times, but you'll probably also keep saying to yourselves "what if they had done things a bit differently". That being said, it is also a game that could do very well with children, who will certainly be more sensitive to its humor and less nitpicky about all the disappointing aspects that we evoked.
