GSY Video PC PS4 Xbox One

This week will be horrific or won't be, with the release of Little Nightmares in a few days, and of course the arrival of Outlast 2, that we can show you tonight, a few hours before it becomes available to all. As you'll see, the atmosphere is pretty different this time, but the feeling of being a prey has never been stronger, with enemies who will leave you no time to catch your breath.

Impressions

After only 2 hours and 30 minutes, we have had a terrorizing time playing Outlast 2, a game that takes its time to set its spooky atmosphere during the first hour, and then never gives you time to catch your breath. The first impression is that of a slower pace, where the underlying threat seems less predominant than in the beginning of the first game. It doesn't last long though, and as soon as you reach the corn field, tension rises up, putting you in constant danger. In other games of the genre, you usually get a bit of time to catch your breath after a particularly nerve-racking sequence, but in Outlast 2, chase sequences only seem to end for a few seconds before someone else catches up with you to try to gut you. This actually breaks the usual pace of survival horror games, forcing you to be on your toes all the time, even when everything seems to calm down. We don't know yet if the rest of the game will maintain such pressure, but from what we have seen, there is little doubt that this sequel is going to give you hell.
  • On the plus side
  • Improved graphics
  • Very nice lighting effects
  • Sound design and voice acting are great
  • Gut-wrenching atmosphere and art style
  • The fear of being a prey
  • Sudden and unexpected changes of pace
  • Taking a bit of fresh air in the most terrorizing of all places
  • No safe hidding places
  • On the downside
  • The trial and error aspect of some sequences
  • Not a game for the sensitive ones
  • A trying game if you're brave enough to play alone

Reviews are all over the place but the main complain seems to be the trial and error which happens mostly because its not clear what u have to do. That was kind of an issue with the first game but it seems to be worse in this game

I can handle psychological horror but im getting very easily scared with loud jumpscares. I finished the first outlast and the dlc but it seriously pissed me off at times. Is this one filled with jumpscares as well? According to reviewers it sounds way more intense than the first game

I wouldn't say it's filled with them. So far, only one made me jump, and it was tonight after almost 3 to 4 hours of gameplay. Now maybe some people will be more sensitive than me.

There is a trial and error aspect but I haven't found it really bothersome personally. Maybe that's because I've never had to try more than 3 times and those sequences are usually quite short (so starting over isn't that bad).
