After the disappointing Ninja Gaiden 3, many fans of Team Ninja started to be seriously worried about Dead or Alive 5, crying over Tomonobu Itagaki's departure. Needless to say that the release of the game this week came as a relief when players realized that it was a good fighting game. Now, we'd love to hear what you guys think about it. Before watching our 60 fps videos of the 360 version, please keep in mind that we are not very familiar with the genre and that we're doing our best.

Well, I love the game. Happy Shimboru worked so hard with the community to fine tune the gameplay mechanics for DOA5. DOA4 can go home :O
I'd rather have some neat CGI endings than those stupid and meaningless cutscenes.
Characters and lighting look nice, but the environment still looks like on Xbox. Low-res flat textures all over the place and in fact, water looks worse than in DoA3.
When I compare the environments of DoA with other upcoming games I really ask myself what they waste all of the hardware-resources on.
Prerendred sweat and boob physics? maybe...
And why the hell did they cut Tag-Team-Survival, my favourite game mode?
Also to everyone bitching about the story at all. IT'S A FIGHTING GAME
The fact it's relatively good should be enough as it is. They took the time to animate scenes and make at least some effort at a story. Rather than having crappy still images with text.
Also this is less of a beat em up this time around. They actually took the time and made it more competitive based too. So it's not just the same game, and it should be more of what people are looking for.
The way they balanced both is great.
DOA was famous for the super-polished IQ. 720p, insane ammounts of AA, gorgeous, super-high-res textures, colorful backgrounds. You could zoom in in anything and it would be smooth as a baby's bottom.
DOA 5 traded that for more polygons on character's faces. Backgrounds are now brown, ugly and straight out of PS2, with N64 textures everywhere. Characters are covered in jaggies everywhere. The game also drops resolution to keep the framerate. All so they could make the faces more realistic like Tekken or Virtua Fighter.
Definetly NOT worth it. I'm rather have amazing IQ all the time, everywhere (like DOA4) than having some nice close-ups during the barely-seen winposes and intros.
I'd attribute it to the fact that the environments have a new level of interaction to them than in previous titles. Not only are there tiers but the entire stage shifts, animates, and creates "danger zones". I would assume that is the real reason why it may look worse.

The web is littered with bad encodes.
