First 10 minutes PC Xbox 360 PS3

After two completely crazy games, the Saints Row franchise is welcoming Saints Row: The Third, which is obviously as extravagant and over the top as the previous episodes. If what you are into is the seriousness of total realism, then this is probably not going to be a game for you. On the contrary, if all you want is take the very idea of sandbox to the letter and fulfill your darkest fantasies, hop in for a ride to remember. Whether you feel like assaulting Steelport's citizens with a sex toy or you decide to take part in a wagon race where horses have been replaced by sadomasochists, you are completely free to spread chaos the way you like or to try the most incongruous activities. Many things to do outside of the main storyline, whose missions may be a bit more linear but also quite spectacular. Here are a few videos from the 360 and PS3 versions, enjoy!
Update: Added two PC gameplay videos.

This game is mine today, and I will enjoy it on it's own merit. as I have enjoyed the game as it evolved into what it is now.
I am also a big fan of the GTA series (which is a little more to my taste), but I love both games. Can't wait for the UPS guy.

Got it at the stroke of midnight from OnLive, played for three hours straight, before realizing how much time had gone by. Needed to put it down, you know, get to bed and get a good nights sleep and all. But just wound up going another three hours before putting the controller down. Thank goodness I took a couple of vacation days for this week. Jurassic Park, Halo: CEA and Assassin's Creed: Revelations also beckon. Plus opportunity dropped LA Noire: The Complete Edition in my lap as well. Sunday evening. So a couple days off to catch up a bit is in order. Really going to make good use of Thanksgiving weekend, that's for sure. Turducken and video games, sounds like a winning holiday combo to me.

Now back to Saints Row!!!

Driving the tank feels so good. I like that tank just crushes the parts of the car you drive over. Like this: http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/6127169896011988...

Just realized something today after watching those videos. I've put in about 10 hours into the game, and I haven't actually gotten to mission four (as seen in the videos) yet. After the first three missions, I just started dicking around Steelport at first, and then began a campaign of capturing gang strongholds, buying up realty, assassinations, and completing a number of the skill-based activities.

Not even playing the campaign yet, and have been having a complete blast in this sandbox. I have not played with a sandbox that I love this much since Just Cause 2 (another awesome game that gives you so much freedom, that it is incredible).

As much as I love more serious sandboxes like GTA, Assassin's Creed, and even RPGs like Fallout and Elder Scrolls, there is something all those games can seriously learn about freedom of choice, and tons of mindless stuff to do from developers like Volition and Avalanche. Not just merely having tons of side quests either, but just stuff out of the blue that you can go and do and get completely off task doing so, yet have tons of fun getting involved in, and maybe be rewarded by boosting your character stats for taking the time to just go off the rails and explore the hell out of the sandbox.

Mind you, Rockstar seems to have caught on a bit if Red Dead Redemption is any thing to go by - tons of none mission critical stuff to do there. Even so, SR3 and JC2 still best it in that department. Hopefully we will see even more freedom in GTA5 next May. And hopefully by next gen, this type of freedom to do anything, will finally become standard for all types of sand box games.

Well said, FreeSwag. I have just recently started gaming after nearly a year of break, after 30 years of straight play. I was getting bored with the been there, done that, feel of this gen. Some of the newer games are making me take notice, but I am ready for next gen now. Hardware is definitely limiting creativity now, as seen by games like Battlefield 3(which Im currently playing) and even Rage which has a decent open world, but nothing to do in it.

I have Skyrim and Saints Row 3 sitting here, with a backlog of about another 80 games(no joke). Thank God for Gamefly. :)

Watched the 360 roaming vid and it was incredible. The feel of the city is very realistic, even though the things you can do may not be. I was shocked at the almost non-existent pop-in during the helicopter flight. That is very impressive for such a detailed world. Great stuff! Cant wait to play it!

The engine seems really bad...the LOD is really poor even on PC, pop ups everywhere. I wonder what happened to the destruction engine that powered Red Faction Guerilla?

I picked this up on OnLive as well, because it was $1. I can't imagine paying much more than that for OnLive games. The tech is amazing. I am genuinely impressed by the service.. but the image quality is still pretty atrocious.

I'm finding this game a little soulless. It's good fun, but it just doesn't draw me into its world the way GTA does.. and frankly.. some of the action game components are a little average. I also can't stand the damn hint window.. holy shit!
