The development of Day Z was a long one to say the least. It all started very well for Dean Hall, who had created an Arma 2 Zombie mod which became so popular that the young developer was finally asked to join Bohemia Interactive to start working on a standalone version in 2013. The arrival of the project in early access was a huge success but no one expected the game to reach its 1.0 state 6 years later, long after Hall decided to leave the studio to work on another early access game. PS4 owners were only able to try this survivalist experience very recently but PC and Xbox One owners have been surviving since last March. It doesn't mean the forerunner of surviving game is now polished though, quite the contrary. Performance issues are still there, loot is so scarce that it makes it difficult for newcomers to find the incentive to keep playing, melee combat is cumbersome at best, so our time playing was more frustrating than fun. Now we realize it's a totally subjective point of view and some people will definitely be content. That being said, we can't help but think the Day Z ship has sailed.
