Xbox 360

Yesterday at the Xbox 360 showroom I also got to film this quite long gameplay video of Perfect Dark Zero, showing the now famous garage sequence and what is coming after ! Let me say also that I'm not the one playing, I would have been far worse than that...

I'm not a big fan of FPS in the first place, but honestly I just could not get used to the very weird sensitivity of the stick, even after changing the controls in the options. I *really* hope this will be changed for the final release.

Looks extremely pretty with the added sharpness that no doubt comes from being at a less crowded show room floor and being able to film without having a big hairy neck leaning into the picture. :)

i'm very interested in this game. It seems like it has a lot of features that are missing in the FPS genre. I'm pretty sure that all of the flak this game is gettin is the result of people getting overly hyped. I mean, the same thing happend with Halo2, and that is a great game.

This seems to be the general view - that ultimately the game is not next-gen but more N64. One thing is for certain that it Rare/MS should hold the release of the game back a few months and give it a major shakeup.. or it could do the 360 more damage than good!

Seeing gameplay footage of ANY FPS looks "repetitive". What makes other games different is that they have cinematic trailers out by now.

Having just finished FEAR, Jo's gonna have to work hard to impress me. The FPS die-hard in me says that COD2 is the X360's first solid shooter experience--Nostalgia is the best thing at work in PDZ. Love the COOP though, I look forward to many solid COOP experiences on XBL this gen--love that..

This looks better than F.E.A.R. which was an awfully repetitive experience.

The only thing it might not have is the AI, but we haven't seen the best of that yet.

FEAR was somewhat repeditive, and it's enviroments were a bit low on the polygons--but there are other areas where it completely trumps this game, such as character models. The enviroments in this game are pretty nicely detailed--but I don't think it's fair to say that it looks visually that much better than FEAR. And while the first several levels of FEAR will make you long for a new surrounding--you really can't knock the ambient creepy feeling that they accomplished. Another merit of FEARS enviroment are its destructive effects and wonderful light model--the effects pretty much go unmatched..the lighting isn't technically a marvel but it certainly fits the game and is well designed.

Where FEAR absolutly murders what we've seen so far is its firefights. The action is horribly intense--and while the story isn't the best I've ever played through--it has great atmosphere. It has great gameplay--centered around the gun--in comparison this looks rather dull and dated in the gameplay department.

EDIT: Another thing FEAR does wonderfully is hit detection and animation--seeing the enemies body contort as you pump it full of nails in slow-mo is pretty satisfying. It's also somewhat unfair that most sites have provided HORRIBLE screenshots of FEAR--the game looks spectacular with soft shadows and AA enabled.

The only single player campaign on PC that may stack up to it this year is Call of Duty 2--which is very derivative of the original call of duty..this isn't a bad thing, since COD was an excellent game--but it does mean that FEAR is somewhat more original.

FEAR is easily SP GOTY for PC in my opinion--the global PC GOTY being BF2 (and my GOTY in general). The only thing I really can complain about w/ FEAR is that perhaps the story could be more cohesive--and perhaps that the game include more enviroments--and maybe it should be a hair longer too..10 hours is mighty short IMO--even if it is pretty standard for a shooter now.

All opinion of course--I think that comparing the technical merits here is just too difficult without seeing more of PDZ--the only thing for certain I can knock are its horrid character models.

Graphics look great and I'm sure it sounds great too, but it seems like Rare ported the AI from N64 Goldeneye to this game...

It looks like they are going for a "real life" look, which this game isn't doing a good job of displaying. It looks too strange.

Meh, great graphics but the gameplay......is this some kind of retro gameplay Rare was trying to achieve.....this is not looking good, from all I see, the gameplay is average with the technology we come to expect from a next gen title.

Is not just the AI, it seems like it is the kind of game you'll get bored off really quick. And no matter what AI difficulty they are using, they act a little too stupid to think they'll get that much smarter with higher difficulty settings.

I'm dissapointed honestly.

PDZ probably will be better than expected. cuz it seems we dont expect much.

u guys should buy quake4. reviews say it sucks but i dont know what they were smokin. IGN and PCgamer are dead to me now. im in love with this game. as far as single player goes, its much better than i imagined and never feels repetitive.

prolly gonna get FEAR soon, but i "fear"? the possible repeatativeness.

That's the thing. PD was revolutionary. We can't expect anything less. It's PDZ! This game looks pretty abysmal. Nothing good about it, except when you reload the gun, the nails on her hand look pretty cool/realistic. Was expecting some new concept to add to the FPS genre, and all I see is "repetitive" footage.

For Christ's sake...

"the game still looks dull and repetitive" ...I take it you didn't like Halo then as whole levels repeated in it. This looks no less repetitive than Halo, and Halo was an awesome friggin game.

"This seems to be the general view - that ultimately the game is not next-gen but more N64" ...12 year olds and people who call all video games Nintendo are the only ones who have this view. Can someone please PLEASE tell me what next gen is "SUPPOSED" to be like? Where is it written that a game has to be completely friggin innovative for it to be next gen? Can a game not just be better than what came before it, or does it have to rewrite the book for its particular genre?

"the only thing for certain I can knock are its horrid character models." ...Look more closely. Pause it and go frame by frame. The models are actually quite good. They certainly aren't going to fool anybody into thinking they're real, but neither are the models in DOA4. It's an artistic choice, not a sign of incompetence on Rare's behalf.

"It looks like they are going for a "real life" look" ...In parts, yes. In other parts, no.

"This game looks pretty abysmal. Nothing good about it, except when you reload the gun, the nails on her hand look pretty cool/realistic. Was expecting some new concept to add to the FPS genre, and all I see is "repetitive" footage." ...Go play Postal or GTA:SA; let a grown-up play PDZ.
