SQUARE ENIX REVEALS NIER: AUTOMATA
First Action-Packed Gameplay Footage Showcases Joint Project with PlatinumGames

LOS ANGELES (Oct. 29, 2015) – SQUARE ENIX® today unveiled the full name for the upcoming action-packed addition to the NIER series as NieR: Automata™.

During a stage presentation at Paris Games Week, producer Yosuke Saito (DRAGON QUEST® X / NIER®) and director YOKO TARO (Drakengard® / NIER) provided audience members a first-look at the title’s gameplay, which features PlatinumGames’s signature action-oriented combat.

“NIER struck a chord with many passionate gamers. It was something so special that we felt compelled to heed the fans’ call for a follow-up,” said Saito. “To create the ultimate action-RPG, it dawned on me that a collaboration between PlatinumGames and SQUARE ENIX would be a dream come true.”

Accompanying the new trailer were a selection of screenshots and artwork that provides a glimpse of the visually diverse world of NieR: AUTOMATA. The title’s protagonist, “2B,” was designed by Akihiko Yoshida from CyDesignation, artist for FINAL FANTASY® XIV and the BRAVELY DEFAULT® series.

About YoRHa No. 2, Model B, “2B”
2B is an all-purpose battle android, deployed as a member of the automated infantry squad, YoRHa. She is equipped with a sword for close quarters combat, and can attack from range using the “Pod” support system. Her eyes are obscured beneath her standard-issue military visor, which she rarely removes.

Members of the YoRHa squad forgo names and are referred to only by their code numbers. Though the regulations forbid them from expressing emotions, each model has its own distinguishing personality, and 2B is comparatively cool, calm, and collected.

Story of NieR: Automata
Invaders from another world attack without warning, unleashing their secret weapon: the machines. In the face of this insurmountable threat, the human race is driven from the earth and takes refuge on the moon.

The humans develop an army of android soldiers to fight back against the mechanical horde, but succeed only in slowing its advance. To break the deadlock, a new breed of android infantry is sent into the fray: the YoRHa squad.

In the forsaken wasteland below, the war between the machines and the androids rages on. A war that is soon to unveil the long-forgotten truth of this world...

Yet she gets hit over and over and over again, she gets up and continues to attack like it was nothing.

This makes Scalebound look really bad and bland. Platinum really does have their moments.

Clearly this is supposed to be a realistic hack&slash action game about a *female android* battling against the machines that has taken over the Earth. /s

Also, regarding your comment about "floating weapons". This is not something that is exclusive to this game. There are other games with "floating weapons" on the back and its generally employed as a means to reduce clipping issues.

EDIT: Also, if you look at the screenshots you can tell that the weapons on her back are bounded by a translucent circular "thing", which I would assume would be related to her android background.

Except this one has a big "floating" away from the body, those ones are still very close to their backs.

But in this case, the game, if you look on top of the weapons there is some sort of a magic ring type around each weapon and she is also blind, so i am assuming there is a reason for its magic "floating" look and not just lazy design bug or something.

It's very likely related to the fact that she is an android.

tiny girls with slender frame swinging swords twice their size. Of all outrageous things, that always gets me in J-games.

As a fan of Platumum's games, i'm hoping for the best. But i'm not really keen on the setting here.

Well i do not expect Platinum haters to buy this, no matter how good it is ;p And wow, this looks wayyy better than what i expected. My dusty ps4 is ready.

I'm still surprised new NieR is a thing - i liked the first one, even though the world was bland and combat not good at all, but thought it did not sold enough for a sequel. And yeah, it is on the right hands ;)

Visually It looks much better over the original, but seriously those ground textures, the price of 60 fps i guess. Awkwardly though, Bayonetta 2 has better character detail with hair and textures.

they should fix that.

I also wouldn't compare This gameplay to Scalebound, visually they're targeting different performances. this game is more like MGR and Bayonetta. On top of that in Scalebound you will have a dragon on the field, for which you can fly and explore maps with as well. most likely we'll see the evolution to the pre-alpha footage that was shown this year.

The combat does look wicked, a lot better then the other game they're working on. But if they've turned the semi-open world RPG shenanigans of the first nier into another bayonetta/DMC clone i'll be pissed. at least since they have an established theme and art style they can't fuck it up and make some jarring mish mash of awfulness (looking at you scalebound)

Since the humans will clearly be the main antagonists in this story, I predict two options for the plot twist: (1) Either the humans have created the robots in the first place, or (2) the robots are the actual humans (inhabited by human consciousnesses) and the fake ones are some kind of (proto-)cyborg or homunculus created by them.
The heroine's dilemma: Whom will she fight for? How does one constitute life and humanity - and what is its worth? Alas, in the end we are all... AUTOMATA.

If this game is about who i think it's about, she's a shemale.
Under "sex" she's considered a Hermaphrodite in NieR RepliCant.

In motion the textures in general seem pretty good. I don't really agree with the Bayonetta comparsion...Her design isn't as intricate as Bayonettas, but the visuals are clearly better. More polys, better shading...All those things are evident.
