These screenshots don't even look like screenshots. It looks more like a new Pixar movie. I think it's great.

I'm not so sure it is the source engine anymore, or at least not the one that came with HL2 - LFD2. The lighting and shadow engine is complete different, it doesn't show any of the flaws that existed in the original HL2 version and seems to be unified and completely dynamic. Models themselves seem to have a LOT more polys, theres far more fine detail on all the pistons and joints in those robots than could have been done before.

The DOF in those "shots" also gives it that pixar quality, thats why i'm not so convinced they are screens, and more like staged renders.

who cares, the in-game footage of Co-Op shows the Bots as detailed as in those screens. They are using some kind of photomode effects to smooth it an that isn't "real unprocessed in-game". All people does that and some of them even never release a single screen that isn't from photo bullshot mode: ask polyphony digital for their GT shots.

It looks like they updated their Source engine quite a bit.

in-game assets (there are clearly visible polygons) but rendered with god knows what AA. so, in essense, bullshots. wake me when they show co-op in-game, split-screen

I don't really understand why people complain so much about bullshots.

Bullshots or not, it's hardly going to make you change whether you buy a game or not.

no, it wont change you're mind if you're set on buying it anyway, but it's like looking at a peice of CG artwork and being told the game will look like that. it's pointless. you can't exactly comment on how the game looks based on bullshots since they arnt even remotely indicative of the final game. hence pointless.

if these where genuine console screenshots, you could at least get an idea of how good the textures where going to be, or how good the AA is going to be, or just the general quality of the graphics as a whole. but instead we get these...images that dont help you in any way shape or form, they just look pretty and surve no purpose.

i'd rather see a jaggy mess of a game then bullshots, at least then you know how how it will actually look.

Possibly not bullshots on the latest and greatest PC hardware though. Super sampling Source shouldn't be that hard on a high end PC. The lead platform for this isn't the PS3 after all.

and if that is indeed the case, and people are waiting for that version, great, but they should at least show us what the "inferior" versions will look like (or at least say what version this is appearntly from). otherwise it means nothing to majority of the people who visit this site (console users)

The reason the shots look so good is because 1-the source engine has been heavily updated since HL2 & 2-These were rendered using SFM, like all new screens from Valve. In-game can look exactly the same, excluding the depth of field which isn't currently available in realtime

Would love to know what hardware this is running on. And if these are indeed in-game with no extra post effects photo shopped then HL3 should be mind blowing.
