Trailer PC PS4 Xbox One

Unveiled late last week for QuakeCon, here is in good quality the first gameplay trailer of PREY, the FPS from Arkane Studios and Bethesda Softworks. The title is set to release in 2017.

I don't know, the reveal trailer just oozed of potential to me. Now it just looks like it'll be Dead Space with the shadow monsters from Ico :P

Been a long while since we got a good bioshock game. This will do nicely.

I wonder, why even use the same name if it has virtually nothing to do with the original game? that's like going out of your way to acquire Starbucks and turning into a burger joint. couldn't they have just made this into a separate IP? like it needs the title "Prey" because they couldn't find a better catch phrase.

except they didn't go out of their way to acquire the prey IP, they had it sitting there doing nothing. devs have already said why it's called prey. and it boiled down to "it sounded cool and it was there to use"

it's not like prey is some uber franchise that sells games on name alone. they're simply making use of their assets.

Looks nice. Especially the gloves. But, I still long for the day when jaggies are a done thing. Why is it taking so long to achieve?

might be compression of the video anyway. play games on pc for a jaggie free experience for the last 20 years....

Infinite was amazing!

It's a Dishonored thing though. That game really made this style popular even though Bioshock came first

Infinite was amazing!
It was kinda dumb storywise and had awful gameplay. Here's a 36 minute long video explaining why;

If you need a 36 minute video to explain Infinite's plot problems.....

It has wonderful characters. Like really wonderful characters. But.. yeah.

Bioshock 1 was pretty great.

I really don't think that that is particularly long for a proper analysis of a game and it's design tbh. Try actually watching it, it's interesting even if you disagree.

I think Bioshock 1 was better than any of the sequels by far. Mostly because the theme was more consistent and better thought out.

I don't disagree.. I just think Bioshock Infinite's shoddy plot is pretty obvious. It survives (and persists) on the quality of its characters and its dialogue. That it's even a Bioshock game at all is a little far fetched. Maybe not as far fetched as Prey being a reboot of Prey :D

I thought the characters felt kind of boring too tbh and, as pointed out in the video i linked, were seemingly designed to make the player like and/or hate them them rather than to actually fit in the narrative.

That aside, yes, this seemingly has nothing to do with prey...other than like...maybe gravity? Gravity was a thing in Prey, right? Then again, the narrative aspect of the original game was perhaps not begging for a continuation either. Even if i remember the game as being decent.

The Original 2006 game Prey wasn't developed by Arkane Studios. It was co-developed between Human Head Studios, 3D realms and published by 2K Games.

According to Bethesda Softworks they did acquire the IP, scrapped everything and made it into a "Reboot".

"The new Prey is not a true sequel but instead a "a reimagining of the IP", according to Colantonio."
"This version of Prey came out of Arkane Studio's own ideas;"
(copy/paste whole link)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prey_(2017_video_game)#As_Prey

Like i said - "that's like going out of your way to acquire Starbucks and turning into a burger joint."

The game has tenacity but they could have simply created this without even needing the trademark. you could re-imagine anything on your own when it's not connected to something original. no trademark purchase necessary.

More From the same link -

"Realizing that coming up with a name for a new property can be difficult, and that through Bethesda that they would have the ability to use that name, they opted to go with calling the game Prey."

"Bethesda's vice president of marketing Pete Hines explained that the new game has no elements from the cancelled Prey 2 outside of the player facing against aliens."

(copy/paste whole link)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prey_(2017_video_game)#As_Prey

So pretty much they had issues finding a name for this game, and as mentioned neither game has a real connection to each other....so they could have done this without the trademark. they just couldn't think of a better name other than "Prey".

i don't think they acquired it on the basis of changing it. it was in 2009, and it did remain in development as it was when we saw it as prey 2, the bladerunner-esque bounty hunter game. but that was shit canned since it wasnt' working out, and so you're left with a IP sitting dormant doing nothing. its was there to use. it sounds cool. they used it.

it's more like buying starbucks on the basis of serving starbucks coffee... finding out people don't like the taste of the coffee and then opening a new starbucks with a "new taste".

it's still a sci-fi FPS involving aliens. it's a loose connection, but it isn't like they made a kart racer and called it PREY. lol

Very helpful. :/

I'm assuming this is from the console version because of the jaggies; nothing at all to do with video compression. That's what I'd like to see fixed. You need to spend a lot on a PC to get the kind of image quality you are talking about (Resolution vs AA vs Performance).

Must be lonely up there... :P
