Best-Selling Shooter Franchise Returns with Gripping New Storyline, Missions and Multiplayer Experience
Paris, France – November 3, 2011 – Today, Ubisoft announced the development of the latest edition of its best-selling Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 franchise, Rainbow 6 Patriots. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal with the support of Ubisoft Toronto and Red Storm, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots revolves around a dynamic single-player storyline that captures the reality of modern-day terrorism and allows players to experience it from multiple characters’ perspectives. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots is due for release on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC in 2013.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 franchise has sold more than 25 million copies worldwide and has been hailed as one of the best first-person shooter series of all time. The games are known for depicting high-tech counter-terrorist operations set within the Tom Clancy’s game world. With Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots, Ubisoft is building upon the success of the franchise while also taking it in a bold new direction.
“Terrorism has evolved, and so has Rainbow 6. In Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots, all the team play, tactics, and realism that fans of the series love have been coupled with an exciting new narrative direction,” said David Sears, creative director at Ubisoft. “This adds an unprecedented level of humanity that will make Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots an extremely tense and immersive experience.”
In Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots, Team Rainbow faces a new and very real threat called the “True Patriots,” a highly-trained, well-organized revolutionary group that claim the American government is irrevocably corrupted by greedy politicians and corporate special interests. The True Patriots will do whatever it takes to reclaim their country. Playing as Team Rainbow, players will face critical scenarios that will require them to make tough ethical decisions in order to stop this new breed of terrorists.
In addition to the immersive single-player storyline, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots will introduce a huge variety of new innovative co-op and multi-player experiences. Players will be rewarded for working as a team and mastering the game’s new features that enhance communication and tactical execution between teammates. Success will come from a mix of split-second decision making and working to coordinate attacks against the enemy.
Additional details on Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots can be found in an exclusive cover story in the December 2011 issue of Game Informer Magazine, available this month.

Though I might say that I wouldn't mind buying the pc-version.
Rainbow six 1,2 and 3 = Pure awesomeness, the crap they released after that, not so much!
Come on UBI, don't mess this up...
Never forget;

And yes, with the release date that far out, this will definitely be a launch title for next gen systems.
Nowadays you meet 98% dickheads and screaming kids, that I just mute (heck most of the time I'm in party chat ..
I miss those good old days (X-link Kai and Xbox Connect)! (don't get me started on Unreal Tournament, Quake 2 and 3! MP heaven!)
It seems, as with most games these days, the devs are trying to make it much more of an interactive movie (see beginning section "press square now to kiss your wife"). That also leads to a much more scripted and linear experience. Although the video looked damn nice, it also looked very linear and scripted. I am still wishing for some truly dynamic tactical games.
The thing I loved about the original R6 games, was how dynamic they were. You spent a while planning a great strategy, and sometimes it worked, while other times you were force to adjust on the fly to adapt to the enemy. There were multiple ways to approach every situation. I know it is only target footage, but I just don't get that vibe here. It looks like your only tactic here is what order to kill your enemies before moving forward in a straight line.
Also, what is up with the matrix outlines and being able to see through everything? Isn't part of the "tactics" in a tactical game having to actually lean out from cover to see enemies etc?
On a high note, those graphics look stunning (with a 2013 release data, and possible next gen consoles, I don't doubt they could pull that off). I also really liked the sounds in the target video. They just need to make sure they capture the feel of the original games.
The story is going to be interesting for sure. Not sure about fighting enemies with whom I fundamentally agree, despite their tactics being extreme.
Move on, stop supporting their direction by not buying the damn game instead of being a slave in buying the game and complaining when Ubi has stopped giving a crap about your opinion. I'm fine with all the changes Ubi makes with their franchises, but people who're disappointed, just stop paying attention to them!
Maybe there should be a Ubi Nostalgia Forum where people never buy any new Ubi games and just circle jerk over the the old games.

I know that the upcoming R6 game will utilize a third person cover system, but I hope it'll actually be balanced, this time.

I have not played Rainbow Six past 3, because even that was too simplistic for me after playing other squad shooters at the time like SWAT 4 and Full Spectrum Warrior.
I haven't supported Ubisoft's squad shooters in this generation. There will always be some other indie/European developer who'll fill that void.
For example:
You liked the top-down stuff in the first few Rainbow Six games? FROZEN SYNAPSE, it has huge critical love, and here's a WTF on it. One of the best games of the year. Don't miss it, buy it from Steam!
You like the old Ghost Recon games? ARMA 3! PC!

@digi
But they haven't even bothered to release something like Raven Shield to test the waters on that type of game have they? It's like i was saying last night about PC games being dumbed down for the console market, the fanbase is there and PC gaming is healthier than it has ever been it's about time these publishers/devs took a chance once in a while.
You cant say the PC is been dumbed down for console gamers, it's dumbed down for gamers overall, the average gamer wants a easy epic experience.. we, unfourtantly, are not your average gamers, we was once the majority, we are now the minority.. and sales is king :(
