Trailer PC Xbox 360 PS3

Although there is still no gameplay footage to be seen in this new trailer of Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6: Patriots, we can at least get a glimpse of what to expect in terms of cruelty.

Yes..at last no more stereotypical Muslims as terrorists which has been fcuking fed to our mind since 9/11 until up to this year in games...Im just sick and tired fighting the war in Mid-East in games. BF3 for example shud haf came up with a diff and interesting storyline. No more sneaky Russians and Hadji's

When looking at the screenshot one would think Agent 47 is looking down on the street from the window.

Looks very interesting! The story so far seems really emotional. The bit where the taxi passenger gets shot (in the old trailer) was the most emotional moment I have seen (in real time that is).

This is looking really hard hitting if these themes and choices cross over into actual gameplay. Possibly to the point of it not being fun? Definately interested tho. Hopefully it is as you say. Cos we havnt had a good tactical shooter for a while.

I think the games industry is just following events of the real world. That isn't "feeding our minds" with anything, it is just the way it is. Islamic extremists waged war on Western ideals, so they make a good enemy for Western style games. It's not an anti Muslim thing, it's an anti terrorist thing.

That being said, I agree the Arab and Russians are getting played out. I for one don't care who the enemy is, as long as they make them believable. After watching the original trailer for Patriots, it just seems far fetched to me though. Normal Americans who are fed up with corrupt government, suddenly start murdering their fellow citizens? I would fit into that group, and I sure as heck aren't going to start slaughtering people. We'll see how they decide to spin the story though...

Good point. I really hope they do return more to R6's tactical roots, but the whole morality thing is really tough to handle in games. It can work in open world games like Fable and Skyrim, but how do you handle it in a shooter like R6? Would one expendable civilian really matter that much to you in a linear, level based game? What would be the repercussions of just killing him and taking the easy way out?

The only way I could see difficult choices becoming feasible would be involving your squad. I would love to see something like the old school Ghost Recons and games like Hidden and Dangerous where you pick your squad members, learn their backstory, help build their skills, and start to count on them. Then, just like in the old GR games, if they die that is it. They are gone. You must complete the mission/missions without them, or possibly get a new green recruit with little skill as a replacement. THAT would add some sense of loss and emotional attachment, AND make you think about sending your guys into harms way, or not taking out the guy with a bomb strapped to his chest. I can only hope for something like that, but in the current era of games where developers are shy to even let players themselves die, I'm not holding my breath...

That is generally how extremists work. Not all muslims take to terrorrist action, but some of them are capable of it, and some of them do. I have no issues believing the same is true for any other group of people. Americans included. Hell, people are murdered on a daily basis for much more trivial things then their own beliefs. I have no trouble believing an american would kill his 'fellow citizens' if he believed it to be the right course of action.

My concern is whether the videogame medium is the right place to tell such a story. Doesnt sound particularly 'fun'. You can distence yourself from needless killing in a game like GTA, because they are just walking, one-liner spewing avatars. Start giving them back stories, motivations and their own twisted justifications and i'm not sure i'll enjoy playing it. I dont really want any context when it comes to enemies, makes it feel all the more uncomfortable, like the beheading scene in battlefield 3. Very impactful imo, but disturbingly so. Same goes for the victims, i dont want to see their forced execution after finding out about their family, life, wife and child. It's too much for me. I'm all for sympathising with characters, giving them more depth. But the first trailer they showed was genuinely difficult to watch. Maybe i just put myself in characters shoes too much, whatever the case i dont thing i could play it with its current approach.

I will be fair, my comment was meant to be sarcastic lol, because lets be fair, this is NOT going to be tactical, this WILL be a cod clone.
