Hell, Hydrothunder Hurricane took it a step further with 4-player split screen parties that you can take online. Found myself a while back in an eight player race - three of my friends on the couch in my livingroom against four more of my friends at my neighbor's place two houses over. And now that HDTVs are huge (my current is 60"), you really do not mind splitting the screen up into two or more segments . . . not like the old days of only having a sub-20" TV.
So I feel you about the local multiplayer thing. Until last year, it's something I had not done a lot . . . at least not since the days of Power Stone on Dreamcast. And if R&C: All 4 One can bring that in a major way, it may make up for the fact it seems like spin-off of the PSN title.
BTW, is it me, or do the colors in the game look washed out and muted? Kinda of an odd choice considering the rest of the games in the R&CF series, are so bright, and for lack of a better word, Technicolor.
