Red Dead now in 4K on Xbox One X

Microsoft just gave players around the world a new reason to be interested in the purchase of a band new Xbox One X, by releasing a 4K patch for Red Dead Redemption, which can now be enjoyed to the fullest on current television sets. This new update is yet another proof that an official remaster of the game is never going to happen, something which was very unlikely anyway. The good news is that the Xbox One X patch improves image quality tremendously, as proven by a first gameplay video inside, which should soon be followed by a second when it's done encoding.

Sooo - the only reason to buy a Xbox One S/X has come?
Anyway, looks really incredible - a shame it ran like shit on its original consoles

The Xbox One S is not powerful enough to render BC games in 4K, only the X does that (on selected games for now).

I think it's your browser or the video player, try playing the video in fullscreen, it you don't have a 4K monitor play the video corresponding to your screen's resolution to avoid resizing (that can induce this problem).

Check the gallery images in full size to see that there's no added sharpness :

EDIT : I just tried and if I play the 4K video on a 1080p screen, or even the 1080p video but not in full screen I get pixel crawling because the player does not filter the video in a good way.

PS4 is not backward compatible and the patch is the work of Microsoft, not Rockstar.

It's the Xbox 360 game running on Xbox One X, there's no Xbox One or PS4 release.

And as the PS4 is not backward compatible you can only play it on PS3, unless you pay for PS Now on PS4 (and it will still be the PS3 version).

No update for PS4, these Xbox BC / Enhanced titles have to be approved by the original Publishers but are mostly done by Microsoft's BC team. So unless Rockstar decides to put a team together to make a PS4 Pro patch, it's only available on Xbox One.

I guess the Xb1X beat pc to playing this in 4k. for a moment i thought it would be the other way around by some months. :0 good job to MS for this free upgrade.

I wonder if we'll get to see Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata in 4k 60fps.

Had Microsoft had this at launch it would have been a big advantage for them. PS5 BC to atleast PS4 games is a must otherwise it could be dealbraker.

Nope. They were capped at 30 on the 360

Doesn't mean they couldn't unlock the 30fps cap and make it run at 60. ;)

In the BC regard the One X is pretty amazing. Getting more and more interested in getting one thanks to this and the fact that it uses a closed liquid cooler. Really sets the standard. All I they have to do now for me to get one is to get Ninja Gaiden 2 on the system and patch Halo Reach and Perfect Dark Zero to 4K.

The BC does not change the code so it won't change a game locked at to 60.

If i remember correctly Microsoft won't change the code.
So if the game was locked on 30fps on x360 it would be locked on XBoX One X too.

That was also at least once discussed on a DigitalFoundry Video.

Yeah, it will remain 30fps but it can still be 4k. I'd love to see Lost Odyssey and Too Human in 4k.
