This could really become the game of the year..... or the most disappointing game of their year.
What makes you say that? All the trailers and gameplay demonstrations so far have been incredible, full of details and atmosphere, it looks to be a awesome game, why would it become a dissapointment? I don't see that happening.

Because I think the game is too awesome too be true. Also we haven't seen any full mission walkthroughs yet, (acutally we haven't even seen gameplay sequences longer than 5 seconds), and last but not least there was this stuff about the fired developer, who said the game is in bad shape.
But don't worry, I don't want to talk the game down or anything, I'm just trying not to get too hyped up only to get disappointed. (damn you Assassin's Creed)
Was it a ex-developer? I thought it was just some dude from a website who had seen the game in action awhile ago and said he wasn't so impressed at all. I don't recall it being a fired developer :)
You have to keep in mind that for Rockstar, all of these gameplay introduction videos is already quite rare. I mean.....look at the GTA games, never did they show any gameplay at all before the game's release. In terms of physics, graphics,atmosphere and animation the game seems spot on. Just look at the ridiculously realistic animations for the horses in the previous (life in the west trailer), i think thats what it is called.
I actually expected to only see cutscene trailers and such before it's release, and thus i was very surprised when that very first gameplay introduction was shown. IMO they have shown plenty already :). Nothing in these trailers gives me indication that it might be a huge dissapointing, they have worked so long on this and it shows, by watching these trailers you can see that some haaaaard work has been put into tis.
Plus that they delayed it for a few weeks for extra polish...instead of releasing it on april, they take a bit more time. I always try not to get too excited about some games, but damn...i simply am expecting a great game.
I'd buy this game for the dialog and great voice acting, that has been clearly demonstrated in the trailers from the past months. The gameplay will be icing on an already fantastic looking game. Just fantastic!
I'm still trtying to wrap my head around the current consoles producing this kind of a game. There is no game I want more than this one, including Reach...
