Hmmm...
Very good looking, nothing spectacular of course. I'm worried that game developers aren't taking advantage of the PS Vita's amazing hardware and what's even more worrying, is that the best the PS vita can do....
Definitely not, but step up a gear game Developers.

Love the song . . . don't think the game looks that good . . . absolutely hate the framerate . . . wish Namco would stop with the cash-in dirty ports of RR, and focus on maximizing a modern experience for a change (and no, Unbounded, which seems to eschew all things RR, in favor of slapping the RR name on a another poor man's Burnout clone does not count)

nice coming back to reality.

Af if you think visuals are the only dissapointing, see the game/selling models of DLC and Memory Cards.

I was just saying yesterday about Sony's serious need to re-evaluate it's business model and focus on bringing lower priced games to Vita, as it's core software offering. Then today, I saw this article at Joystiq detailing the fact that Ridge Racer only has three tracks and five cars (all from RR7) and tons of DLC on the way . . . but it's not a budget priced game by any stretch of the imagination. In Japan, the game costs the "budget" price of only 3,880JPY ($52 USD), which when adjusted for market differences and price variances, basically translate into the budget price of $30 USD in the US. The very fact that I can buy complete PSN and XBLA games with far more content for only 1/3 of the price, just makes this shameful.

Namco should first be ashamed of themselves for making this game - it's got zero new content to bring to the series. They should be doubly shameful for making it so small - even the original Ridge Racer had four tracks and 15 cars; and 60fps. But to charge a penny over $9.99 for this, and then expect to extort even more money from gamers via a long tail of DLC as they nickel and dime together the rest of what is essentially RR7, that is the biggest shame of all.

Shame on you, Namco. Shame on you.

That joystick article is very much lacking in information, the PS Vita does not use disc medium in favor of a "very space precious storage medium" format.

Has it actually been released, have they actually played the darn thing and completed all the races?

Also you talk about shame alot, but you say that "the original Ridge Racer had four tracks and 15 cars; and 60fps" what the hell are you talking about? The original Ridge Racer only had ONE race track with an extended route and reverse variation of the tracks, it NEVER had anything over 30fps unless you are talking about the ORIGINAL original Arcade version that preceded it.

So tell me what are you talking about?

How about Ridge Racer 2 on the PSP? It's 60fps and has 15 tracks. This game is severely lacking already.

not only does it look totally awful it also has 3 tracks and 4 cars....Namco can buzz of with their lazy ports.

Both Wipeout and that retarded Motorstorm game look a lot better than this (I am sure they will be more fun as well)

How about Ridge Racer 2 was NEVER released outside of Japan? what part of that don't you understand? Poor sales on Ridge Racer 1 PSP I wager and all of a sudden RR2 PSP is a highly prized collectible. /shrugs

And you are quoting a second generation PSP game as a way to bitch and moan about a first generation PS-V game? really??

Like I said is the PS-Vita RR a final retail game? did they complete all the races?, do you even give a ____ about Ridge Racer or do you just love to complain about anything Sony related?

Ridge Racer Unbounded is crap, trash, mockery and insult and many other derogatory terms to insult gamers who mastered the Ridge Racer series, I am not buying that but if I see a disc I will kill it with fire.

This game, honestly I am trying to be as neutral as possible but one thing just cannot escape me is that its not even programmed by the Namco guys, its yet another unrelated to the creative dev team, dev team so no surprise.

As to how the game looks like compared to Ridge Racer 7, lets see I actually started and finished RR7 last year all the way to 100% single player races and I have seen these PS-V RR videos on my PS3 and looked at the screen shots on the PS3 as well, it looks almost like the PS3 only its obvious this is a hand held console game with a hand held resolution/framerate and hand held technology and hand held priority towards battery life/gameplay.

In case you missed it, game consoles are for sitting on a couch, your bedroom, living room and going on multi-hour sessions that can go beyond 12 hours straight without going to the crapper.

Hand held console games are never expected to be used beyond their portable time frames, really you are on a train there are many other activities to do in a train/Bus/back seat of the car on a trip somewhere like sleeping, eating, handling certain stuff...

Oh sure you can go to recess and play with some friends... as long as you actually want to spend that time racing and not something more addictive and useful like Pokemon or watching out for perverted sports staff or the playground bully who wants your games or he beats you to a pulp... or maybe you are too old to be hanging around a playground... hmm creepy...

Lets wait and make final judgement on the retail game. BTW Ridge Racer 7 never actually taps the Cell BE or even RSX, Blu Ray or even the RDRAM/videoram it was a launch game that was more of a incremental revision "port" of RR 6 basically its held back because of the Xbox 360 version, if Namco's creative team were to make a new sequel on the PS3 with current mature dev tools its pretty clear that the game would have a night and day difference beyond RR7 and thats sticking to the RR formula as crashing/model deformation was never part of the gameplay, just very intense (get some AMP/RockStarx2/Monster/RedBull/Coffee to really focus for top time shaves) racing.

And calling Motorstorm "retarded" are you serious? or do you just plain suck at that game? Wipeout has not even gotten a proper sequel, just a remake to test the fanbase and Motorstorm is the creative direction that dev team decided on, so far every sequel they keep making improvements with MS3 being the best one yet, you gotta seriously suck at that game or just be a lazy (I want my hand held to win) type gamer to hate that kind of game, sure its not perfect but at least its not a Burnout clone or Need for Speed wannabe give some devs credit for not giving up and simply just making Call of Duty clones since thats whats making all the money these days.
