Xbox 360 PS3

Though TGS is showing all of the nice upcoming games this winter and next year, it's good to see how many games that are still coming in the upcoming month. Saints Row 2 is ready to be released next week and here is the launch trailer of it.

reviews are saying differently. also it seems they threw in a ton of shitty ideas (streaking?...WTF) instead of fixing their game engine. rental at best.

The same was said about the original, which I also found far more enjoyable than GTA, including IV, which recieved ridiculously high reviews. So I definitely won't be listening to the critics on this one.

Besides, all the reviews so far have been mostly positive. Nothing revolutionary but actually fun to play, which puts it above GTA IV, in my books.

Where has this idea come from that GTAIV isn't fun because there's less to do? Everybody seems to be raving about Gears, and that is probably one of the most straightforward games ever made. But, it's brilliantly excecuted and the same goes for GTAIV.

I mean, I'd rather have one beautifull women giving me a lapdance than 20 butt-ugly ones (weird example I know, but you get my point).

The story in GTA IV was excellent, but I think the problem is the fact that most people were never interested in GTA for the story, a lot of people don't even bother to play right through them, and unlike the previous games, there really wasn't anything to do in the game besides the story. It was a lot less exciting to randomly drive around, and all of the activities that made the previous games fun were gone.

In my opinion, Saints Row has also has a great story, even if it's not quite on the same level of GTA, but it's also a lot of fun to just play. if all I wanted was a story, I'd watch a movie or read a book. I play games to have fun and enjoy myself, and I felt Saints Row was far more sucessful at doing that.

that seems to be their problem then, not the games. i've alwasy been a fan of GTA because of the production values and tight story telling, not to mention the comedy and of course decent gameplay. GTA4 improved on the story ten fold, improved on the production values, and made the combat and gameplay more refined and engaging.

the problem i have with saints row is that it all comes across as REALLY desperate. like they've thrown in controversial elements in the hope it gets a one up on GTA, instead of making a quality product. the first game was good, and im sure the sequel will be too. but there just isnt anything that really comes across as particularly well done. its all very well for the developers to be able to advertise 100 mini-games (exageration), but when they all amount to shallow throw away game modes...whats the point.

When it comes to gameplay, i like SR1 much more than GTA4. In GTA4 there is virtually everything about assasinagtion missions. In SR1 you have had so many more types of missions (like in previosly GTA titles).
When it comes to storry i wouldn't say GTA4 provides a better storry. Both are totally different. The big difference is that SR1 tried to poke fun at the ganster stereotype by making those characters look a little ridiculous.
In GTA4 almost everything is meant to be serious. GTA tried to show: "Hey, it's cool to be a gangster".

They improved things like combat in GTA IV, but it still wasn't as good as it was in Saints Row, which nailed it first shot. The melee combat especially is just far better in SR.

I don't really get why some people defend the humour of GTA, yet bash Saints Row, they both go for the same low brow style, SR just takes itself far less seriously. I thought many of the gags, particularly the ones in the main story were far more clever than anything in GTA.

You're forgetting that SR also has a very strong single player, not counting the side missions. You're trying to claim there's nothing to the game except for the activities, which just isn't true. They are essentially a collection of mini-games, but most of them were quite fun in the original game, things like ensurance fraud was just hilarious, and they've added even more things like that, ontop of the assination missions, chop shop, hot fuzz, etc..

Which are really no different than the side games that were in the past GTA games, like the taxi missions, or car collecting, etc. There's just more to them in SR, and they give better rewards.

Why is it, that every time I go anywhere online and see anything about Saints Row, it always turns into a Saints Row vs. Grand Theft Auto, who's got the biggest penis match.

It would be really nice, to actually read an article, watch a video, read a review about Saints Row, and not have every asshole (both SR and GTA fans in that lot), turn the whole mess into, how SR is supposed to be better than GTA, or how GTA is supposed to be better than SR. Give the fuck up already people - PLEASE!

Saints Row is a great game; I loved it to death, had a lot of fun with it, got the sequel pre-ordered; gonna have a lot of fun!!!!

GTA (including GTA IV) is a fantastic series; matter of fact, it is my favorite game series of all time; I've beaten every last game in the series and have been playing them long before it was popular to do so, and all the fanboys jumped on the bandwagon; I anticipate the downloadable chapters for Xbox 360 when they start to surface later this year; gonna have a lot of fun.

See, I'm what they call a real gamer. Unlike most of the people who call themselves gamers these days, I don't run around precluding that Tekken sucks just because I like Street Fighter. I love them both equally for what they are. And even if I did not like one, or had a preference for one over the other, I sure as hell don't derail a thread about one, just so I can talk about the other. They have a term for that, it's call trolling. And normally I am the last person in the room to play the troll card, but I am so fucking sick of not being able to have a decent discussion about Saints Row with other fans of Saints Row, because the GTA fans feel the need to troll every Saints Row thread started anywhere on the internet . . . or worse still, some dumb ass Saints Row zealot starts the very first post in a Saints Row thread, with a trolling statement designed to piss off the GTA fans and get this particular pissing match started - which consequently, is exactly how this thread started rolling downhill in the first place . . . the very first comment at the top of the page. They have a term for that too, it's called baiting, and it's just as punk ass as trolling. And it's too bad I've come across yet another Saints Row thread, that's a victim of baiting/trolling the GTA crowd.

One would think, with over 20 million fans, and several entire internet communities dedicated to nothing else but GTA, that you could find at least a single forum thread on the internet, for poor old Saints Row, that was not bogged down with the GTA/SR pissing contest . . . you'd think.

GTA4 will always have conflicting opinions. Personally i think it took the right step by maturing itself. Saints rows idea of maturity is to throw in aload of swear words... Gta4 is a step in the right direction where games need to go. They need those production values, they need to be well written and acted..its a series thats grown up just as those that played the very first gta have.
And you'll see more games taking this direction... brothers in arms is the latest example. Mafia 2 will no doubt build upon the excellent story structur and maturity of the first one.

Thats not to say theres no room for mindless fun too.. saints row and gta can co-exist together. Saints rows basically taking of where san andreas left things. Its a game that can get away with self endulgence on fart jokes.

GTA4 is goodfella's...saints row 2 is American pie. They're a class apart.. but theres room for both, cause no matter how much of a classic and iconic film goodfella's is..sometimes you just feel like watching somebody shag a pie
