Deep Silver and Volition have formally announced Saints Row IV. The crazy sandbox game is back and hits store shelves on August 20. Get the first teaser trailer and screenshots inside.

Press release:

The United Saints of America Rising to Power August 2013- Saints Row IV™ Announced, Bitchez

- From the Crack House to the White House –

15 March 2013 - Hampshire, UK/... Today Deep Silver announced that Saints Row IV™, the ball-busting next chapter in the Saints Row franchise, is starting a party in your pants this Fall.

In the next open-world installment of Saints Row, Volition continues the story of the Third Street Saints by elevating their status to the highest level – the leaders of the free world. In Saints Row IV, the head honcho of the Saints has been elected to the Presidency of the United States. But the Saints are just getting started. Now the larger-than-life insanity of the Saints series gets a new twist with a catastrophic alien invasion, and the aliens have transported the Saints to a bizarro-Steelport simulation. Wield gargantuan superpowers and fight to free humanity from alien granddaddy Zinyak’s mental grasp. Escape the simulation that’s trapped the Saints crew, or die trying.

Saints Row IV lets players delve into an arsenal of alien weaponry and technology that will turn each Saint into an ultimate entity of destruction. Utilize out-of-this-world superpowers to fight all the way to the top. With intensified action and enhanced customization, players can use their newfound superpowers and leap over buildings, outrun the fastest sports cars, or send enemies flying with telekinesis in the greatest, most insane installment of Saints Row yet.

Save the world, Saints Style.

Because that's exactly what it is. This is the content from the cancelled SR3 xpac + SR3 asset re-use + some new stuff. It's really Saints Row 3.5 "cashgrab before next-gen Edition".

As long as it has enough missions and interesting side things to do I don't care if its the same graphics/city/engine/... PC version is probably going to be pretty cheap at launch with GMG deals anyway :)

People get way too caught up in this nonsense. Not putting a number on it seems disingenuous to me. Do people really think Assassin's Creed 3 was Assassin's Creed 3? Every sequel is a "cash grab" if that's how you want to look at it.

That is simply commentary on the name. Re-used assets, recycled DLC, etc. are different issues.

I enjoyed 2, but I thought 3 missed the mark, big time. This just looks like all the slices they couldnt sell you for 3. What the hell happened?

If I'm understanding it correctly, some of the content is from a canceled DLC for SR3. I'm still okay with them extrapolating that into a full title if it has the content and the chops. We'll see.

I'm happy enough that they're in good shape after THQ blew up.

THQ just went under and there's already a Saints Row 4? Meanwhile not a word on Devil's Third, a game that actually looks new and interesting :(

So... what you're saying is you have little-to-no confidence in Rockstar Games? Because they're notorious for not announcing games until they're practically done and if you get any early warning ("preview") of their game, it's because it actually ran late.

Everyone calling this a "cash grab", doesn't know shit about a struggling developer's attempt to take control of the content they actually spent their hard lives making. Publishers "cash grab", because they have resources to put another team (besides the core team) on some cheap off-shoot. Struggling developers don't "cash grab", they work and work hard to give the public games that they hope and pray resonate and sell enough for them to be able to do it again.

Uh, Volition is developing this game though, so I'm not sure what the hell you're talking about.
