For once here's a remaster that is not going to be called lazy, apart from a bunch of lazy journalists who claim not much has been done to revamp the visuals. Saints Row: The Third Remastered is probably the most impressive remaster of the generation and a model to follow in the future. Obviously as it is not a remake, it cannot really compare to today's triple A open world games, but to be fair, Saints Row has never really been triple A so even a brand new episode would never look as good as, say, Red Dead Redemption 2. That being said, there is still a lot of impressive things going on here: better car and character models, improved particle effects, implementation of global illumination and HDR, with volumetric lightning and depth of field effects and much more our good friend John Linneman from Digital Foundry tackled in his latest video. We're preparing some Xbox One X videos of the game so you can see the best console version in action, but until then we have some HDR footage on PC.
Update: Xbox One X video added.
