Xbox 360

Like every Wednesday it is Famitsu time with first the blurry photos and later hopefully the better quality scans. Lost Odyssey had two pages this week, full of new pictures.
Update: Added the whole 6 pages in good quality.

nice, although they dont seem to make a very intimidating team...minus the children, they could seem like a group of travelling musicians or some such

The characters all have Westernish names. As from what I can read:

(guy in the middle) Fureeto Yansen - Freed Jansen?
(girl in yellow) Shisuraato Sara - ?? Sara (shisuraato could be some German-ish name when it's translated to normal German :P)

And so on.. not gonna name them all.

Good lord kick ass character designs and modeling!

Very impressed here.

Kaim's pose isn't nearly as cool as the other characters, but I'll forgive that :)

All the female characters look amazing.

AMAZING Scans Team Xboxyde! IMPRESSIVE chacter designs that's for sure. This game is going to be HUGE!!!!
Lost Odyssey has definately the potential to break the Sales records of Blue Dragon over there in Japan, I am so confident about this. Mistwalker really deserves the success after all the hard work they did put into all these JRPGs ... I wish them every success with this title.

The Lost Odyssey scans are great. They finally reveal more information about the gameplay and music. Here are some highlights:

- Only mortal characters gain new skills as they level up, but the immortal characters rely on a "skill link" system to gain the skills of the mortal characters.

- There are up to 6 skill slots, so you have to pick and choose to customize each character.

- As you use skills, they get more powerful for that character.

- When you equip rings and accessories, they can add special things to your attacks. The special element will be triggered if you get a Perfect on the combat ring timing.

- Rings are crafted using materials you get from beating normal enemies. There are tons of crafting possibilities affecting everything from damage, elemental attacks, defense, critical rate, stealing, etc.

- All equipment changes are visible in all scenes except in movies. Sakaguchi was saying how it would be silly if a character had a nekomimi (cat ears) on during a serious scene. :)

- The world map in the game seems to be a map where you select locations from a list, similar to FFX and FFX-2.

- Uematsu composed over 50 tracks for Lost Odyssey, and used a variety of instruments for the score.

- There are 3 vocal songs in the game, all lyrics written by Sakaguchi. Two of them are in English.

- More details on the music and other stuff will be revealed at the Lost Odyssey Premiere event on 19 Nov.

Blue Dragon was amazing and is still to this day easily one of the 360's best titles shame more people wont find that out for themselves, but I don't mind as long as I got to enjoy it :D

Great battle system with a fantastic class system, great art direction, beautiful music, very high production values all around, many funny moments a great story, likeable characters (yea it may be more to an anime fan's liking, but I enjoyed it)

Some cool minigames, some smart design decisions throughout the game. It most definitely isn't a bad or subpar game not even close to it actually. I've played some of the best the 360 has to offer thus far and Blue Dragon is easily up there if not better than some of the others in a number of areas, but Blue Dragon's cutesy style and traditional turn-based gameplay puts it at a disadvantage with the masses and I'm sure the main character's being kids played a major role in a lot of people's feelings towards it, but there is no rule stating such a game doesn't have a place among everything else out there.

Regardless of how Lost Odyssey turns out people will think its better than Blue Dragon solely based on the fact that this game appears to have a much more mature style and that sorta thing appeals more to people over here. Characters in Lost Odyssey look like they've had quite a bit of combat experience (which is maybe an understatement considering there are some immortals) whereas in Blue Dragon you had a bunch of ordinary kids that couldn't ever make such claims stumble onto some magical powers. So it shouldn't surprise us when we don't find badasses in the group. There is a reason most people liked Zola the most.

Btw some awesome details on lost odyssey there.

Interesting about the crafting and the way immortal characters gain abilities. Also I like the thought of a specific skill becoming more powerful as you use it.

Yeah I'm not saying BD was really a bad game. I'm sure I would've liked it if I hadn't played so many similar games as a kid. There just wasn't anything fresh, you know?

On the other hand, it's not often you play as an immortal trying to remember his past! When I first heard the concept (before the 360 was even out), I knew I had to play this game. This and Cry On, actually. I wonder what's going on with that game...

Cry On is still in development they now have the guy that handled the world design for Blue Dragon helping with the game. Cry On is most definitely a game I'm interested in. Hey.. it might actually be a 2008 title!

Oh yea I understand what you mean Blue Dragon didn't attempt to do much new, but with me as long as the concept interests me and its well presented I don't mind that it isn't pushing the genre forward and as a result plays like much older games in the genre.

Lost Odyssey though is looking fantastic. I'm dying to find out all the game's mysteries and whats the deal with the immortality some appear to have. I'm sure all we have thus far is just a very minor part of the story and there are some amazing things that are to be revealed in this game. 4 friggin discs!!!

I also love that all things put on will be visible.
Something that Sakaguchi mentioned in the interview suddenly got my attention. He said that after Katsuhisa Higuchi joined the staff on LO, he helped add a ton of depth into the game's battles. Everything from the enemy AI routines, to the balance of the skills and rings, to boss battles and battle depth was improved or contributed by his experience.

Katsuhisa Higuchi is the battle prgrammer for FF3-5, Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Chrono Cross and the battle programmer and battle director (battle system, balance, concept) for FFXI.

lol before 2010 I would hope by 2009, but most definitely I can't see how any jrpg fan could pass on a game like Lost Odyssey. I mean when the Xbox was still very much kicking and we had no idea of an Xbox 360 if someone had told me there would be a game like Lost Odyssey on the next Xbox I would've laughed at them. :)
