Great, loved the first one. Just hope it has a slightly longer single player mission. He looks awesome in the new outfit!

Great graphics and art, nice.

And yes, the main character looks cooler with the new outfit than before.

First game was flawed, fun but very flawed.

I love the art style too.

Really not sure who these type of games appeal to anymore. I don't mean the art style or theme but the gameplay itself. Maybe it's new gamers that are keeping them going. I love 2d games mind but these types just feel they should die now- especially ones that are essentially nothing more that what we've played now to death and nothing else- very much like why walk along beat em ups died in the first place

While playing the first game i questioned why i was interested in games at all. The same tired thing over and over that we've played over and over far too may times already- which is fine if you're playing those same games and not just new ones in a new skin. Games like these can work but this one didn't really even have any depth either

In truth it's the same with lots of genres. How many really great fps shooters get released for example. If all we have to look forward to is practically same gameplay each time but a swapping of graphics etc, well it's a bit depressing really. Extra layers in games also only hide that it's still very much the same thing most of the time

Very unlikely but maybe when true working AI and interaction kicks in will we start to see more interesting stuff

These games appeal to me. The hardcore beat up fan. These genres will never die nor should they. Im old school so this feels right at home. Games like this and Dishwasher i can't get enough and its really not enough of them these days.

It's funny that some games like this will probably be redesigned in 3d nextgen. It isn't really indie, seeing that its successful and made by EA they are bound to put more resources towards it in the future. It could be like Mario's SNES to N64 transition all over again for several of these titles... Heck, Bloodrayne even devolved, so why not.

You can unlock bunch of nice looking outfits in the first game - Grindhouse Shank ftw (first one) - http://www.xblafans.com/wp-content/uploads//2010/0...

That said, Shank 1 was quite disappointing game imo.Not only the combat system is quite poor, but also enemies, environments are really repetitive. :/
look at something like Dishwasher 2 - this game shits all over Shank.

edit: isn't Klei Entertainment the same guys that made N+? Damn, i need new N game. :(

nice style/artdesign... but this gen, there are so many many games with a special visual style, thus unique nice visuals aren't enough to me, and the gameplay was boring/average in the first Shank imo

Diswasher was though i thought an excellent game at least, i just don't like games like this that are just a new slapping of visuals and story over nothing more than bare bones tired templates

Yea, let's not play castle crashers and rayman origins for the same obvious reason... Is it the missing pixels or are you just being ignorant on this one ?

In terms of cutscenes you're certainly right, they mostly look rubbish i wont object, but game animation itself was actually pretty well done imo.

The problem is the game itself and not the genre. Shank simply isn't a good side scroll beat'em up. Neither are the controls good, nor has the engine any depth. There seem to be enough people though, who are content with brawlers like this. Though i don't get it myself, where's the problem with this and why shouldn't these games be made if they appeal to these people? It's not like there's a company remodeling a good series for the worse to appeal to another target audience, or something like that.
It's certainly a shame though, that really great side scrollers like Ninja Warriors Again, Alien vs. Predators, Panzer Bandit and Sengoku 3 aren't made anymore. It always was a genre which even back then had only very few good games and most companies who were able to deliver these are either out of business or not caring for the genre anymore since you can't earn big sums with it.
One can only hope that companys like Platinum Games keep releasing spiritual successors to the genre like Bayonetta.
