Video PC Xbox 360 PS3

"Racing is exhausting. Racing is violent. Racing is fluid. Racing is not muted, static or uninspiring . . . " In this new video of SHIFT 2 Unleashed, the developers put forward the realism of the driving sensations by comparing live footage with actual gameplay. Obviously they have done a pretty good job.

LOL the telemetry screen is just copied from Forza. Not that it's a bad thing, it's a great addition to Shift 2. The same for time-attack with those great cars.

Hoping they improve the gameplay here and there and make it more playable...

Visually, this game looks phenomenal, the lighting is insanely natural and they really doing a great job of producing ture immersion. However, "The most advanced physics system in a racing game" LOL!! I hope that was some kind of joke, even just by watching that video, you can easily tell that the way the car shifts about isnt very realistic at all!

Some of the off track camera footage of the cars taking a turn looked a bit awkward and stiff.

Shift2, it seems, has the in-cockpit head movement on automatically. I don't know how well that would work, but I'd certainly hope they have an option to set it off or on manual control.

I've always felt that racing games with in-cockpit views need to have the right stick control the head movement. I haven't played a racing game that has done that correctly, and it seems like such an obvious thing.

With Forza3 one could control the head movement, but had to first push up on the right analog and then run it left or right along the edge. Which is just far too fiddly to use.

geeez.. did GT5 just get surpassed in its visuals after only a few months? As that did look pretty damn sweet.

Hopefully it controls alot better than the first shift

I heard that Shift 2 will actually have damage as well! I'm kind of burnt out on racers at the moment, but I will definitely be picking up either this or DIRT3 depending on which turns out better.

That looks AWESOME. But I did take a little issue with the "we've got the most sophisticated physics engine in any video game" thing- and then showing all the readings and tire physics that we've seen (exactly the same way) since Forza Motorsport 1. And again in FM2 and even better in FM3. And always in real time- always rendering out hundreds of times per second. Not that this doesn't look awesome- but Forza's been on top of this sim game thing for many years.

Interesting- they are even calculating the physics @360fps, just like Forza 3 as well. Awesome looking game, but like many are saying, I'm a bit pooped out on the racing games for the moment...

The helmet cam and overly sensitive shake in cockpit view makes the experience less realistic IMO, normally the the bumps of a track translate to the driver not just in vision but in all aspects of feel and position, but what you have here is the car/ view shaking with the gamer being rather static. I hope it translates well but it made shift 1 a jarring experience especially since I hate playing games with assists on. But it is obvious to tell that alot of effort has gone into this sequel.

Yeah, never been a fan of the cockpit view outside of the interior of the car looking purty, it does nothing for me. It is the greatest example of the flaw of being in First Person in video games. There isn't any peripheral vision like I would normally have if I was actually driving a car. And the helmet cam doesn't alleviate that.

I also find it funny that they're now bragging about how realistic the game is when months ago they were trying to step away from Forza and GT. Also, the idea that they're the first multiplatform sim racer is hilarious. Pretty sure Codemasters has 3 by themselves. And a final 'lol' to them complaining about the fact that they're 'car encyclopedias'. THAT'S WHAT THE SIM RACING FANBASE LOVES ABOUT THEM.

Everything about this seems like a desperate attempt to make a faux sim racing game for the arcade racer market.

they completely missed the point... They made a game "realistic" cos its like watching a race recorded ona camera from inside a car.

Thats NOT realistic racing! thats realistic watching a race on TV.

Actually i'm playing MOH right now on my PC and love it. I'm enjoying this a lot more than COD. It's a different type of modern shooter and that's a good thing.

edit
Holy crap this looks awesome. Easily the best looking racer if that 'in game footage' is not a lie. May be PC.

Sounds and looks as if they took physics-engine of Forza and made: CtrlC, CtrlV.

Would be a good thing, but I doubt that they really dit it.
