Here is a whole new batch of images of SHIFT 2 Unleashed and it seems EA decided to crank it up a notch, photo mode-wise. Apparently they have managed to get close to the level of realism as Gran Turismo 5 in that department.
Update 3: More images added, again.

@Doom_bringer: Look at the last picture - the real track looks very little like that. They're still in keeping with the 'alter real-world tracks to make it easier' motif they and other arcade game devs have. The corner is much harsher at Le Mans than that and the track is substantially thinner, too.

Would be great if they include Le Mans, though.

It is especially awesome for FIA GT1 and GT3 races!
For anyone who lives near belgium i recommend the 24 hours of spa in july(28-29-30-31).
Hearing a BMW Z4 with a V8 speed by sends shivers down my spine... and back up btw.
And this is a day 1 purchase for me! I'm just hoping for the new SLS, which will be competing in the new GT1 and GT3 2011 season!
Urggh don't get me started with that stupid 5minute intro everytime you started a new profile.

Look closely at the lights, some cars use a simple texture, which are on par with the "standard cars" you clearly hate.
Quite frankly the whole Shift series is one whole bullshot thanks to over use of motion-blur and colour filtering techniques.
I praise games where they are deserving, certainly graphics ain't an area I'd buy this for.
In addition, the standard cars in GT5 are of a high quality anyway - most on par with current other racing game's car models. The lighting and reflection system is superior, also. Complaining about GT5's graphics, outside of certain shadows, makes you look silly.
