You know, i think that's more because of their new art department.
Nobody ever whines about other gamebryo games, stuff like Civ4, Catherine and Epic Mickey is also powered by gamebryo. So i think bethesda just had some seriously sub-par artists.

That may be true, but you can't deny how superior the technology itself is. The texture clarity and lighting alone is on a whole new level:
Well ofc they've made engine improvements and probably tailored their in-house engine to better fit the type of game, but i still think hiring more artist is the biggest difference. Just look at mods like Ren's Beauty pack for Oblivion...i don't particularly like the anime style of it but it looks a whole lot better than any of the original faces.
Also a good artist will most likely be better at packing UVs as well, utilizing overlapping UVs effectively and thus increasing the texel density. Aka crisper textures. Also the craft in general just looks superior in terms of texture work in Skyrim.
I think most things go without saying when it comes to skyrim. I mean, I knew from the start they would have more than one race, and I also knew that there would be a fighters and mages guild, and that there was more than one type of armor.
Like I said, when its an elder scrolls game, these things come sort of, part of the package.

i dont think you can take anything for granted these days.. look at dragon age 2... or even mass effect 2 with its completely scaled down armour and weapon mods.

There's one important thing to note though bleached: Bethesda isn't Bioware.
There was a time when we all thought bioware where unfallible, yet here we are with ME2 and DA2, 2 massivly dumbed down experiences. If the mighty bioware can fall into the 'accessibility' trap, i think it's safe to say any dev studio could. Bethesda included. From what we've heard, they've already took a few steps further even after oblivion took the long jump.
