Got to admit the tracks really ARE jaw-dropping. Love the Afterburner stage. Seems like a pretty solid engine this is running on.

I was not even remotely interested in this game, until a friend made me read over the Eurogamer review. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-11-16-sonic...

Eurogamer typically down scores most games below what most publications rate them. So then for Eurogamer to give SART such a high score, it really piqued my interest. After actually reading the review, the take away is that SART represents one of the extreme few kart racing games that works as a true alternative to the Mario Kart series; one that can even go toe-to-toe with Nintendo's venerable kart racing franchise. The fact that game is an homage to SEGA's heyday, and coughs up endless oodles of fan service to SEGA fans of yesteryear, is the icing on the cake of one of the most solid racing experiences all year; kart racing, arcade racing, racing sim, or otherwise.

And just that quickly, SART went from, '"WTF is this crap,"' to, '"Okay, maybe I should get off my 'cynical horse', and check this out."' That was enough to get me to at least try the demo, where they give you access to two tracks (Panzer Dragoon, and Golden Axe) and two modes (racing, and boost challenge). After spending some quality time perfecting my racing skills, which included the return of the classic SEGA-style racing power slides, I came away from the demo greatly impressed.

You see on the surface, SART is a kart racer. But buried underneath, beats the heart of deep skill-based arcade racer with RPG overtones. And it is the requisite of actually needing racing skills beyond the 'go fast and use lots of power ups' formula that typifies every kart racer ever made (the entire Mario Kart series included), that sold me on Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed . . . and it did not hurt that SART costs $20 less than competing premium priced games.

In summation: you get a deep racer; much deeper than any kart game you have ever played, you get some of the most inventive levels/tracks this side of SuperGT: SCUD Race, you get relatable characters that you already know and love/hate (always a plus for a kart racer), if you are a long time SEGA fan you get the most fantastic walk down Memory Lane (I've been listening to the Richard Jacques remixed soundtrack, and have been in SEGA Heaven), you get the entire packaged wrapped up in some of the most gorgeous graphics this console generation, and you get the whole thing for $20 less than the normal price of a premium console game . . . and if you get the Bonus Edition (on sale now), you get the bonus Outrun track/level thrown in at no charge.

I believe the response you want is, 'Shut up and take my money.'

Here is a playlist, featuring 17 of the music tracks from SART. Each track in the game has been remixed from it's original version from a classic SEGA title, by none other than Richard Jacques himself, for use in SART. And they all sound fantastic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eoi0RbpA22U&feature...

The previous one was pretty good, actually and really good for my little kids without being nerfed, like some other karting games.
