Xbox 360 PS3

Sega released this video of Sonic Unleashed showing some gameplay in a never seen before level of the game. And it actually looks fun!

Why can't they just stick to the roots. I'd love a compeletely 2d (or maybe something similar to LBP's 2.5d) in high def, with a sonic with simple controls. Combat = bad in this game, the werehog is a stupid idea. When are they going to learn? Keep it 2d, have multiple routes through the level, have simple attacks like the old sega mega drive games and boss fights, simple objective to get to the end.

It's like they feel they need to add variety for the sake of variety. They should stick to just Sonic...and perhaps Tails...but it should all be fast paced platforming. The Sonic sections of this actually looked pretty great to me...then yuck! Knuckles flashback!

I'm cool with the wolf thing, but I don't get the name.

The "Were" in Werewolf refers to the human portion, yet, all the hog has is wolf attributes (aside from the usual human traits in all sonic characters); so it should be "Wolfhog" or something.

That notwithstanding, I really want to play it!
Looks like a crazy ride.

I feel like no matter what the "non sonic" gameplay looks like people will say it looks like crap out of principle. Or that it's "slow and boring" it could be mario galaxy with a wolf and people would say it's "slow and boring in comparison" To me, the werehog gameplay looks like fun, and the sonic gameplay looks amazing.

Well, to me the combat has to deliver if the werehog bits are to be fun at all. This is where videos worry me the most though, because enemies seem too resiliant. If the combat was more fluid, like that of Billy Hatcher, then I would basically be exstatic at this point.

As it stands it's not so much principle that has me wanting Sonic in the Werehog bit, as it is the fact that Sonic '06 had good combat (White Acropolis showed this off the best) and this flailing about looks like a step down.

The people complaining about the werehog (that word is so wrong unless monster Sonic is supposed to be half pig?) parts not being "Sonic-y" enough should remember that Dr Robotnik made Sonic a mutant hedgehog in the first place and I think I read that in this game it's Robotnik who turns Sonic into the were-creature so it actually fits in with the original story perfectly if that's the case. It's some of the environments that don't look very "Sonic-y" to me. Give me chequerboards, big plastic-looking flowers and neon signs damnit!

Give me a Sonic game like Mario Galaxy and I'll praise it to the heavens. However, none of the recent Sonic games, the Sonic and non-Sonic sections included, don't deserve to even be mentioned in the same sentance as any Mario game.

They're critisised so badly for a very good reason. The Sonic gameplay here looks exactly like Sonic Rush, which is not a good thing. There's no direction and barley even any gameplay involved, it's simply moving as fast as you can in one direction, like a rollercoaster. It looks pretty, but there's no substance to it. The original Sonic games were good because they were NOT about speed, they had actual platform sections, not simply holding right until you finish the level.

The werehog sections admittly don't look bad, it slows the game down to a more platform/action orientated style that the game needs to have, but why do we need a silly werehog mechanic to do this? It's very jarring, I don't see the two styles of gameplay mixing at all, and unlike games like Zelda, it doesn't fit in at all.

The game does deserve some praise for fixing some of the problems the more recent games have had, but they still don't seem to know what the underlying problem is or how to fix it. I also feel I should remind you that Sonic 2006 seemed like it would also fix many of the problems, and until very close to release, appeared to be a very good looking game, that many fans pinned hope of Sonic's redemption on.

You're simply repeating an endless cycle.

Same odd gameplay starting from Sonic Adventure. There are some speedy elements in the levels but they doesn't look like it! I mean if there's a loop, you'll definitely see Sonic goes through it from a far and static viewpoint, like a mere observer. In the SU he runs fast, but not dynamic.

Let me guess, a lot of 'run fast and then stupid fall\bump' awaits us again
