Xbox 360 PS3

The official Soul Calibur IV site has been updated with these six new images of Sheherazade. It looks like these are from a more recent build, with much better facial expressions than before.

Sheherazade is looking alright, but Angol is not. I don't know why but her costume really bugs me. It's one thing to have guest artists design some characters, but that still doesn't mean you don't have some sort of quality control.

With this, MGS4, and NG2, I'm looking at the greatest summer for gaming...ever. And damn it if I don't rub one out in the process, especially with characters like these involved :)

I think she looks pretty.. horrible. Easily my least favorite official new character, not counting Vader and Yoda. An elf.. seriously? Her costume sucks too.

Angol wouldn't be so bad if she didn't (doesn't) have a cartoon face. I'm still hoping that the pics of her featured the other day were showing off the character editor or something. Plus her weapon is a bit lame.. a small planet on a stick? That's not even a real weapon.

It's to appeal to the 'basement crowd'.

Star Wars characters to get psyched about, elf girls to get excited about......
See the marketing angle?

I like her. She's not one of the best characters, but still good. I really like the 3 first screens.
Her design should have gone a bit more into the design of Deedlit from LODOSS, especially the hips and the ass ^^

What a shitty character design...it's so boring. Angol is way cooler (even though you guys complain about the spike nipples, she's a bit more original than this junk).

I wish character designers would be a little more daring over all, i'd rather see a freaked out character than something dull like this.

anyone who feels Angol
(big anime face that sticks out like T-Virus infected thumb)
..is in any way more fitting than Sheherezad
(kinda dull main outfit, but at least looks like she's in the right game)
..should just admit that they're rabid anime fans who wouldn't mind if the whole SC cast was replaced by busty big eyed warrior chicks with mediocre anime designs..even if Angol is from an obscure series, to have her in the cast is like throwing Pikachu in GTA.

She's a really 'elf'like elf. I don't see much of a problem here at all.

I still don't have any problems with the character designs. But it's getting pretty funny to hear people whine about different aspects.

I've always found that the characters outfits looked either kind of dark in nature or at least like something real that'd be worn in the SC universe. Angol's threads stick out like the thumb you mentioned. I mean seriously, nipples aside, wtf is up with that gaytarded hat she has on? Was it the only thing that could match her stupid planet-on-a-stick?

The problem is that she's horribly boring looking, and it seems the only way the so-called "guest designer" could attempt to maker her interesting was by adding elf ears...which don't really fit in with SC.

It's ridiculous, but I think my biggest problem with some of these characters it that they had to have guest designers come up with the concepts. If you're going to outsource for some special content, at least make sure it's fucking rad and not something a losery 14y/o anime nerd chick would draw on her school binder.

No not really, but with Hwang, it doesn't seem like there were any half-assed attempts at making him look more interesting. And since he wasn't the result of a guest designer, it doesn't bother me as much.

Are you even for real? All the goddamn characters in SC looks like they come from two bit animes or mangas. And there's hardly a lack of big eyed, busty warrior women either. I won't say anything about Angol's in game model, cause that looks horrible, but the artwork and idea is IMO much more interesting than Sheherazade. As for not fitting in...it's hard to stand out in a series thats featured Spawn, some other douche form McFarlane, Link, Heihachi, Yoda and Vader mixed with the regular cast. Soulcalibur hast already thrown consistency out the window, so i don't even care about that any more.

Some people such as myself see those characters are purely bonus characters; they aren't meant to fit in at all...they're just there for fun. Some of these new ones though simply seem like they fail on every level.

which don't really fit in with SC.
That's all that really needed to be said.. and yeah, Spawn, Link, Yoda, Vader, and even Heihachi were all just gimmicky guest characters. No one really took them all that seriously. It's like having a damn Spartan in DOA. It's a lame marketing gimmick.

Here we have an elf invading the main cast, which makes very little sense in the grand scheme of things. It's sorta like putting some jacked cameo in Halo 3--or like, a freaking elf girl (like.. kameo, lol?)--I think you could expect that should people might care. And yup, she's dull to boot.
Are you even for real? All the goddamn characters in SC looks like they come from two bit animes or mangas.
The difference is that the shots of Angol released the other day really do look like an anime chick amongst relatively realistic looking characters. Sure, there's a fucking Lizard Man.. but you get the gist of it I'm sure. Soul Calibur 4 is easily the worst offender when it comes to throwing consistency out the window, if you really want to examine the property.

I mean really.. there's an Elf.

Yup, the key is that he fits right in.

I still want it, but they're definitely traveling down a path that doesn't appeal to me.. because they're trying to hard to appeal to everyone else. Yoda is on the box art.. ew.

Grift: well, all these "new" characters are labeled as "bonus characters" as well, so i don't see the difference then. Also my favoring of Angol is purely from the design, not the model in the game, which you'll note i said looks pretty bad, and now just for the record out of place. In game she looks more like one of those collectible figurines you can buy :P

But like said, as far as i know both the elf girl depicted here and Angol are labeled as bonus characters.

It's just a 1 on 1 beat em up, I don't see what the big deal is. I don't play these games for the story. They could have Gumby in it for all I care as long as the game is good, lol! (The Monty Python character, not the American green plasticine character, although they could put him in too if they want.) If you want to complain about something then how about the fact that many of the characters have swords yet no matter how many times they hit another character the other one doesn't have a scratch on them let alone die! I've got a cool idea how to do a weapons based 1 on 1 beat em up that I'd like to see implemented in a Star Wars 1 on 1 beat em up but I'm keeping it to myself so no one can steal the idea. :D (Although if there is another Star Wars beat em up I hope whoever makes it think of it too.)

The difference between ordinary fighters and the Soul Edge, Soul Blade and Soul Calibur games is that this series actually has a serious and engaging storyline which actually connect between the parts. Many fans would not like to see it watered down to DOA's level of obscurity in terms of story. There are "fun" fighting games which are just collections of characters to mess around with(such as Smash bros and marvel vs capcom), but then there are serious fighting games which actually have stories(KoF, SC, Tekken), you have to know the difference between the two types because fighting games can have stories as serious as action/adventure games when done correctly. It makes me wish Square would consider making Tobal No 3.
