Namco Bandai reveals today 3 characters of Soul Calibur V: Nightmare, Raphael and the new challenger, Leixia. Screenhots inside. Update: Namco-Bandai and Ubisoft just announced that Ezio Auditore will be playable in the game. Trailer added.
Nice art, particularly some of the detailing in the stages. Whoever created the huge dragon sculpt on the floor must have put a huge amount of effort in to it.

Yeah, what the hell is up with this crap? They just take their old characters out and replace them with identical ones :P
Also i hope nightmare is slightly less shit this time, i don't like ordinary Siegfried.

While it's detailed, doing that stuf in zbrush or mudbox won't take you all that long. Just have a good reference drawing and a good stencil for the scales and it's done fairly quickly :)
A lot of people don't udnerstand the iterative nature of fighters. Seems repetitive if you aren't really in to them. At least that's my guess.
I'm disappointed for entirely different reasons. Bragging about dumbing down the game, adding a super bar (which GI now eats into), etc. all have me very concerned. Not crazy about throwing out half the cast for clones either.

So are they abandoning old characters for newly redefined ones? I'm so lost as to why these "new" characters are just new skins of the original ones.
I would be happier if that were actually true. I don't think the new Cassie/Sophie types are going to be identical knock-offs (just like Cassandra wasn't, and Lizardman no longer is)--so if my characters don't actually return.. well that's a bummer.
All for the new additions honestly. I'm mostly concerned about the new approach to accessibility.
And then there's SFxT's gem system... gah... what do we have to do to get some good new fighters instead of this shitty mass market stuff?
Grift: yeah, no argument there. I'm just generalising. When people whine about fighters it's usually out of ignorance rather than understanding and disliking the changes.
Like how many times don't you hear "Bleh, X game is just like the last one! It sucks!" or some retard praising SC because the single player is so good or the story mode is fantastic. They just don't understand the competitive nature of these games. You can't change a game like Tekken, SC or SF too much or it alienates the "pro circuit" (if you will). In the case of SC i kinda understand the dumbing down a bit more as SC is the defacto masher fighter and go-to game for the crowd that likes the single player bit. I still don't like it but it's probably a move that works for that particular demographic.
I'm holding out for TTT2 and VF5 Final Showdown. Next summer is going to kick ass :)
Final Showdown is a big thing, but it's still not technically new :) I've never been a big Tekken fan, so now I'm not sure what else to look forward to.
I'm still going to give SC5 a shot.. but I'm back on the fence on SFxT and I was pretty hyped.

It is true.
He will be the first to actually ...'fit' in the universe.
Not sure yet if I will get this game.
Saw the trailer, he seems to be quite close to Raphael though, both are fencing guys at heart, though Ezio is more badass lol.
Should be interesting to see how well they implemented his moves.
Can't wait to see what they have done with character creation this time around. I spent more time, or at least as much time, making characters versus playing in IV I'd say.

I guess I can't be like that, since when I was younger, I just played Fighter games. I actually know every combo of Tekken 3, since I got a magazine explaining everything. I just...just see too much "bulls**t" in these games today that are a bit absurd, don't get me wrong, I like and appreciate innovation, but it's when it works, not just some "thing" thrown. I borrowed SC4 from a friend, and I was pretty bored on day one, that never happens to me. It's just the very same thing with glitter and whatnot. Oh, and a whole variety of boobs.
Did you play competitively? I don't care if you learned every 10-hit combo in the entire series of Tekken, if you don't understand stuff like frame data and the underlying systems all the combos in the world won't make you appreciate the smaller changes that each new itteration of a game brings.

I actually do, I learned to see the animation and canceling by my own, since that time no one would play fighter games with my age. I love the fighting genre, but that doesn't mean that I love every fighter game that comes out to the market. Hell, one of the best fighters I ever played was not even considered a fighter by many, Def Jam: Fight for NY. Apart from the hip hop scene, that game was great, it implemented a lot of things that even today, are completely absent from fighting games. I know you have seen so much people complaining about something without giving a response about it, but I'm not one of those. I've been seeing fighters since the SNES and I am a "veteran" in the matter. The only reason, now, to buy SC5 is because of Ezio. Not because it's HIM, but actually a new character completely reworked to fighters. And even then, I still won't buy this until I experimented it first.
At first I was going to completely pass on this Soul Calibur. But after seeing Ezio and a bit more of the game it's looking pretty good for the most part. I will not be buying it brand new like I did since SC2 though.
Have to say I hate the new Nightmare design. Looks very dull and generic.
